Text Message (green) unread count not syncing between devices

When I receive a text message (green, NOT iMessage) and open it on my iPhone, it will still show as unread on my 2 iPads and 2 Macs. Issue began when I activated my 12 Pro Max and changed my service from Sprint to T Mobile.

Have already done the normal troubleshooting steps below:

1. Restarted all devices

2. Reset all settings on all devices

3. Turned off and on Text Message Forwarding on all devices

4. Turned off and on iCloud Messages on all devices

This only occurs when the message is opened from the iPhone. If the message is opened from the Mac or iPad, it will act appropriately and mark it as read on the iPhone. Blue iMessages behave appropriately as well

I also have this problem as do the other two iPhone 12s on our T-Mobile family plan. All devices are running iOS 14.3, so up to date. If I read an SMS/MMS on my Mac or iPad, my iPhone 12 read badge will update. If I read the SMS/MMS on the iPhone 12, the badges on the Macs and iPad will not update (although the iPhone badge does update as read).

I've discussed this with Apple Care but they have not been able to resolve it. If anyone else is having this problem and is on T-Mobile, please post. I think this may be a TMO-related issue. Thanks.
