Internet recovery: keeps powering off

Hi there, I am trying to restore my MacBook Air from scratch as there were some what I thought software issues. I can get as far as choosing a wifi server to connect to and I either get stuck on the globe icon and it shuts down to ‘off’ or it doesn’t even get past the chime. I’ve tired cmd+r and cmd+r+alt and have the same results. The MacBook is plugged into the mains power. Begging to think this is a hardware issue?

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Ollymcc!

From our understanding, you’re unable to boot into recovery mode on your Mac, due to it powering off. We’d be happy to help out!

To get started, we’d recommend the following article to help with some general troubleshooting steps: If your Mac restarted because of a problem - Apple Support

When attempting to start up, do you see any of the screens shown here: If your Mac doesn't start up all the way - Apple Support

Also, just to confirm, have you tried using a different charging cable with your Mac? Also, did you attempt to restore from a Time Machine backup, or did the reinstall process attempt to complete at any time?

Let us know the results.

Cheers!
