On macOS Safari "Call xxx using iPhone" opens Skype instead of using the native call handling (FaceTime)

Question

Problem: originally stated in a frozen unanswered question from August 2018.

On macOS Safari open a website which states a telephone number (as pure text or as a link with the tel:// URI scheme)
Select the telephone number.
A drop-down indicator appears right of the text selection. Click it
You get the context menu "Call <YourSelectedNumber> using iPhone". Click it.
This opens Skype.

Question: How can I get the native macOS UI handler for telephone calls / numbers? (FaceTime)

Solution, tested on macOS 10.15.7 Catalina:

Instructions as text (for search engines):

0) After having installed the freeware preference pane SwiftDefaultApps you find it in the section for 3rd party preference panes. Open it.

4) Click on "FaceTime.app"
5) You get a success message.
6) You now have re-activated the native macOS / iOS "Continuity" user experience.
