I have noticed that after using my iphone 12 to control music on my homepod mini, my volume buttons won't work on any application (phone, netflix...). They will only control the homepod mini even if this one is not playing.
In order to get the buttons back I need to restart the iphone.
Is ther a fix?

Hi I had this problem too and it was very frustrating but I called apple customer service and I realised that my phone and one of my homepods was on a different WiFi network so I reset both my homepods and it seems to have fixed the issue.
There are well over a hundred replies to this and still no response. It's absolutely embarrassing that this bug has remained for as long as it has. I disconnected and am storing my HomePod mini until there is a fix. It's unusable for now.
I too have had this issue for a long
time. At one stage I raised it in their feedback app but had a response rejecting it as a non-issue.
It is incredibly frustrating and I have stopped using my HomePod because of it.
Tried again this morning on iOS 14.6 and still isn’t resolved.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I very often leave feedbacks but never got a reply. I was hoping the 14.6 that I also downloaded last night would solve this. Thanks for letting us know the problem persists. It is really frustrating. I also reduced the use of the HomePod to asking Siri random questions and asking to control the lights. Playing music is not worth anymore since it messes up everything. What a pity…
I am having the EXACT same issue.
even if the HomePod is not playing anything, I lose the ability to control my iPhone’s volume and have to restart my phone.
Is this a bug?

At the end it did not solve the problem.

Restart Homepod didn´t help me resolve the problem.
Yes it works but that's not a solution for a ecosystem that cost thousands $$$$ !!

Same issue here. I agree with you. I own 3 HomePods mini and for a total of nearly 500$ CAN, I can expect that they work perfectly.
