I have noticed that after using my iphone 12 to control music on my homepod mini, my volume buttons won't work on any application (phone, netflix...). They will only control the homepod mini even if this one is not playing.
In order to get the buttons back I need to restart the iphone.
Is ther a fix?

Hi I had this problem too and it was very frustrating but I called apple customer service and I realised that my phone and one of my homepods was on a different WiFi network so I reset both my homepods and it seems to have fixed the issue.

I agree. We all need to complain through this tool.

New try, now it works perfectly, I can change HomePod volume also with iPhone buttons.
When I come back on iPhone, volume can be changed too 🤘

I am having the same issue after using my iPhone 12 Pro Max to control the Apple TV (of course we lost the tiny remote). The only way I can get volume control back is to restart my phone.
Agreed - this isn’t a silly, inconsequential little bug. Anything that leads to having to restart the device to restore functionality is pretty ‘game-breaking’, in my opinion.
Is there still no solution to this other than restarting the phone?

Problem still exists on iPad Air 2 iOS 14.7.1, iPhone SE iOS 14.7.1, (original) HomePod in stereo pair OS 14.7, HomePod mini in stereo pair OS 14.7. After air playing from Apple Music app to HomePods, the software slider to control any audio source on iPad or iPhone through their internal speakers doesn’t do anything. Only solution is to restart each respective device (iPad and iPhone).
No, that’s not the solution, I think that’s for another things, normal things. The problem here it’s bigger.
