Scan a document with iPhone

I have an iPhone XR. I want to scan a document, but do not see the camera icon when I open a new note. Is there a setting I need to change?

Hi TantramarTitans,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having issues locating the camera icon in Notes to take a scan of a document. We'd like to help!

Just to make sure, are these the steps you're following to scan you document: How to scan documents on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Which iOS are you currently running on your iPhone? You can find that in Settings > General > About. Finally, do you have any Screen Time restrictions set on this device? These restrictions may be blocking access to your camera. Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hope that helps!

Hey there TantramarTitans,

Thanks for the update! Let's keep going.

Is the account you're creating this note in an iCloud account or a separate email account? This feature will only work when using an iCloud account. If you are using an iCloud account, do you see a small plus (+) in the bottom right corner, above your keyboard? Please click that to open the menu for scanning and other options. If you still run into issues with locating that icon, please Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to rule out the iOS being the reason you're not able to see that.

If you continue to have issues with this, Contact Apple Support would be a good next step for you.

Take care!
