iPhone volume being limited in the car because it thinks car speakers are headphones

Every time I make a journey in the car, at some point the volume will go right down because my iPhone thinks it is playing through headphones (phone is plugged into car stereo via lightning cable). How can I tell my iPhone that the car speakers should not be considered as headphones.

(I’m in the UK). What is a safety feature to protect my hearing is now turning into a safety issue as I have to adjust volume whilst driving).

Hello jonathanfromsouth ascot,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with using your iPhone with your car stereo, as the volume goes down unexpectedly. You can see if you can go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety and see if you can turn off Headphone Notifications and see if this helps, and then contact Apple directly if you need any further assistance.
