Battery meter stuck at 100%

My iPhone 6 battery meter is stuck at 100%, this following latest software update to iOS 12.4.9. The pone functions normal but would suddenly and unexpectedly shutdown, presumably due to battery drainage, yet still show battery at 100% before this. After charging phone and startup, the phone battery shows 2% and it charges to 100%, then it gets stuck again at 100%. I tried phone reset, but it did not fix the problem. Any suggestions?

This technique is controversial, some say out of date, but has been marked as a solution by more than one community member.

It is suitable when battery charge changes step-wise or dramatically.

It may be that a new battery is required but worth a try

First backup the phone

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then put on a video with full screen brightness and the auto lock set to never so that the battery runs down fully. Throw in the flashlight if you want.

When flat (turns off, leave it flat for one hour, no more, no less,

Apply the charger and in one session fully charge the phone and leave it on charge for at least 2 hours after it reaches 100%

Remove from charge and immediately force restart
