Big Sur. Screenshots will not save to external drive.

Just upgraded to Big Sur. Screenshots will save anywhere on the system except for external USB drives.

"Your screenshot can't be saved.

Cannot write file to intended destination."

Drive has full read/write permission to everybody.

Tried with ordinary harddrive, an SSD (apfs), and an SSD (Extended Journaled)

At the cli level, drive permissions are 777.

Anybody?

Hi, I come across this issue by today (13 Jan). Mine is Mini2018, big sur 11.1. It worked fine by my last use, two days ago. I can’t save the screenshot to my external drive but I can read and write files. The only way I can save is to use my internal hard drive. I’m the admin and check the permission is “read & write”, I also apply to enclosed items. May you help.

Hello CptKrf,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with not being able to write to external drives.

Please check this help article: If you can't access a document, a folder, or an app on Mac - Apple Support

If necessary, change the permissions to something else, then restart your Mac, and then change them back. This article should help: Change permissions for files, folders, or disks on Mac - Apple Support

Also check the drive formats. Do not reformat until you move the data, as reformatting will erase everything: Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
