imovie osx cannot open ios imoviemobile project file: "Error in iOS Project Import"

I exported my project from my iphone Xs to Macbook Air (Mojave, updated), and it says 'The projects version is too new"

What on earth is going on - both are 'old' machines.. Anyone got a resolution??

Thx

The error message looks like it is saying that your iOS project is too new either for your iMovie app on your Mac or for Mojave.

EDIT: If you used AirDrop to import the project, it imports to your Downloads folder on your Mac and then when you double click on the project in the Downloads folder it opens in iMovie. At what point in the path did you get the error message?

I am using Mojave and iPhone 6s. I don't use iMovie for iOS much, but tried a test and had no problem exporting an iOS iMovie project to my Mac's downloads folder. So I don't know what is going on with your system.

Since the export fails on the way to the Downloads folder it has not reached the Mac iMovie app yet, so not a Mac iMovie issue. Perhaps the error is coming from your iPhone or some issue with AirDrop. Or maybe there is some corruption in the iOS movie project. The error message does say that the problem is with the "Import", so possibly a glitch in your Mac's system.

Instead of using AirDrop does your iOS project export options include other ways to export? If so, you can try those.

In any event, you might find it beneficial to call Apple Support, as the savvy techs there have the capability to remotely access your Mac, that we can't do here. thanks Rich – very kind of you to try! Yes, it seems like some kind of issue with the version of the iMoviemobile file exported by the iPhone xS. I can airdrop it to the downloads of the MacBook, and begin to import it from the OS X MacBook Air, then get the error msg I posted. It happened when I exported to my sons MacBook Pro also, and as surprised no one else has been running into it 😢
