Camera not working in Big Sur

Hey Apple,

After updating to OS X Big Sur my camera has stopped working. This goes for every application, including FaceTime, Zoom, Teams etc.

I have tried rebooting to no avail.

Can you please help?

Regards,

Jacob

Does this help? From https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252040930?answerId=254102270022#254102270022 it says:

"I had the same issue, what I found was that my Virus Protection software "Kaspersky" had set the privacy setting to block the Webcam, changed it to Allow Webcam and now its ok. I didn't have this issue when using previous versions of Mac OS, for those that's having an issue it might be worth a look"

My son's computer has this same "no camera" issue and his model is not listed above. It is:

MacBookPro14,1 (MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017)). After initially installing Big Sur, the camera wouldn't work in Zoom or Photo Booth. I took it into an Apple verified repair store and without any work being done, the camera worked on Zoom and Photo Booth. Only a few days later without using the camera at all, it stopped working again.

Yea I told them about this thread and they were like sorry it’s hardware. Then I said there’s hundreds of people with the same problem and they said you have to bring it in and replace it and you have to pay if your warranty expired. My camera hasn’t worked for almost 2 months but I’m not getting another Mac after this one cause it was working just fine before the update on FaceTime.

Guys, I'm giving up. I've tried everything suggested and been in contact with Apple Support several times.

They keep claiming it's a hardware issue and say that latent hardware issues can be triggered by an OS update.

In other words, my camera already had problems prior to upgrading to Big Sur, and stopped working cause the upgrade triggered the issue.

When running diagnostics I get this error code: NDC001, which apparently has to do with the camera. So maybe they're are right.

Thanks to all of you who responded to the issue.

Cheers, Jacob

Hi guys, I just upgraded to Big Sur last night (in the UK) and my Camera does NOT work!!

What on earth can we do? I remember updating to Mojave or Catalina and a similar thing happened. My IT guy managed to get them to issue a patch that corrected it. I think it was to do with connecting to printers at the time (about 18 months ago).... Should we all contact them and ask them to fix it and issue a patch?
