Why has Apple Mail decided on its own to mirror my All Inbox box?

I have never ever in the long history of using the Mac Os used a VIP mailbox. Mail has been a real NON INTUITIVE pain since installing Big Sur - But now it is operating on its own... Mirroring the All Inboxes bin. I clicked the arrow next to VIP and nothing is revealed!! I'm not excited about deleting the eMails in VIP bin, because it will probably delete my ALL Inboxes bin as well. Anyone?

Funny: Big Sur shortens to BS!! Just sayin' and this from a self avowed Apple "fan boy."

Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

What does "mirror my All Inbox" mean?

If you've never marked anyone as a VIP, then there won't be anything under VIP. If you mark someone as a VIP, each person will be selectable inside VIP.

In Big Sur, you can customize what is in the top of the mailbox list. The Favorites are the things you want to see at the top of the Mailbox list and is fairly customizable. There is a + button that appears next to Favorites in the header. Clicking on it will allow you to add items to the Favorites.

Except for the ability to customize what appears at the top of the Mailbox list, I haven't noticed much difference in Mail.

Hi Barney-15Em-

I am using one IMAP and one POP. I'm wondering if I should try a total reinstall of BS. Geez that is a lot of work. I also noticed this a.m. Time Machine will not allow a single file backUp to be restored if it is from the same day (and of course it hasn't been made yet on the day before. For instance - if I delete two eMails and want them back - TM locks up when I ask it to restore those two eMails. I'm mystified at this behavior as well. Thanks for the help.

Hi Barney-15E

Mirror means it has exactly the same eMails in VIP as the All inboxes.

Removing the VIP files removes the eMail in the ALL Inboxes-forever!

I am aware of all the supposed customizations that can be made.

Trash changes are not predictable. For instance "throwing an email into the trashcan (the icon) means it is GONE. In previous OS's you could get it out of the trash if you mistakenly threw it away. Moving (instead of deleting puts the eMail in the All Inboxes, but only if you choose which IN Boxes the mail is sent to - ridiculous and how many extra steps does Apple think we need to make? AND the icons are so small and not editable to make larger.

OK - I am ranting - sorry. Just very frustrated. I have lost a few work order eMails since upgrading to BS.
