No Audio Notification with Messenger

Hi everyone,

This is really doing my head in so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

My wife's iPad refuses to give any beep or audio signal whenever she receives a message from Messenger. I've compared her settings to mine (which does give a tone) and the settings are identical. I have checked her FB settings, which seem OK, but her iPad remains obstinately silent whenever she gets a message.

So far, I have avoided deleting and reinstalling the app but it may have to be the last resort even though I am not hopeful that it will help.

Hi and thanks for getting back to me.

she gets the notifications but just not the audible alert (I.e.a beep) when messages come in. It is only on Messenger.

Preferences have been checked and volume is up.

I have copied the settings from my own devices (which are working perfectly) and they are identical.

All other sounds and alerts are working correctly. We have restarted the iPad many, many times.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It looks like your wife do not get notified for new messages from the Messenger app on her iPad. We want her to receive notifications properly, so she can stay alerted. Let’s see what might be happening here.

Just to confirm, is she having any issues with notifications from apps other than the Messenger?

Messenger has settings that can be adjusted within the app. Have you checked those to verify they are set up correctly to receive notifications? You can get to those settings by going to Settings > Notifications > Messenger.

Also, let's rule out simple solutions. Have you tried restarting the device normally?

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. It looks like your wife is having issues receiving notifications from the Messenger app on her iPhone. Let's continue working on this issue together.

iOS 14.3 was recently released, so if she hasn’t updated to that, let’s do so now.
