iPhone automatically sets to 'Do not disturb' when connected to my car's bluetooth.

Since iOS 13.5 (May 2020), Siri will no longer open 3rd party apps while connected to my car's bluetooth. A car icon appears on the screen when my iPhone 11 pairs with my vehicle bluetooth and I invoke Siri to perform a task, like it's in 'Do not disturb while driving" mode - Siri says "I can't do that while you're in the car". I've verified that 'Do not disturb while driving' is set to 'Manually'. Anyone have any suggestions? I cannot turn this feature off. Previous to this update, I could ask Siri to perform almost any task without issue. Now. all updates post May of this year limit Siri to only a few basic Apple apps like 'Maps' etc when driving.

Please note: This post is a continuation of this thread posted shortly after iOS 13.5 was released back in May. Unfortunately it has been marked as 'Solved' - but the issue is not solved.

The purpose of this post is to have the 'Set to Manually' bug in the 'Do not disturb while driving' settings restored to its previous iOS 13.5 functionality - i.e. for that setting to turn off all/any Siri restrictions when connected to our vehicle's bluetooth car stereos.

I have the same experience as Macfinger on my iPhoneSE 2016 - it worked fine connected via bluetooth with my BMW stereo until iOS 13.5. After that, when connected over bluetooth and activating Siri, the car icon comes on—if I ask to open a 3rd party app—she says she can’t do that while I’m in the car. Doesn’t matter if the car is parked or moving. Nothing changed with the car stereo, nothing changed with every single 3rd party app on my phone, and the iOS settings have “Do Not Disturb While Driving” set to Manual.

It is very clearly a bug introduced by the iOS update. Considering I have the settings such that Do Not Disturb Mode should be off, there is no reason I should see the car icon as soon as Siri is activated (just by saying “Hey Siri”). At that point, I haven’t yet said to open another app and yet the phone is not acting as it should. Very frustrating that a company that prides itself on how its product “just work” has not resolved this issue after many months and other updates.

One work around that I have managed to use is to have Siri ask the Google Assistant to open a 3rd party app. I created a shortcut for Assistant that I activate from Siri. Siri then asks what I want to ask Google. I can then say to open the desired app. A little clunky, but I can at least open apps while driving safely. Thanks to Google for coming to the rescue.
