Migration assistant saying not enough free space

Bought a new MacBook Pro 2020 8GB and trying to transfer over from my MacBook Pro from early 2011 which was 4GB using a LaCie and it’s telling me there’s not enough space.

Not enough space for migration I just bought a new iMac and am trying migration assistant. It says there is not enough space to complete the transfer. I did a check on disk utility and everything is fine. Also checked storage and there should be plenty of space. Help!

Less data after migration HI - moving from a 2017 mac book pro to a 2020 mac book pro and used data migration assistant. hard drives are same size. After migration the new mac book has 197GB of data used on the disk vs. on the old one the Get Info shows 205GB. is that normal and what is missing or does not get transferred? just being worried to lose some stuff. I use icloud etc but still seems odd and I want to make sure before I erase the old one. thanks much!

How large is the SSD on your new Mac? Many older Macs had 500GB hard drives. How much free storage space is available on your new Mac? How much storage space was being used on the old laptop?
