Unable to Scan to Network Folder from HP LJ M277dw

I am working to setup Scan to Network Folder from my HP Laserjet MFP M277dw to MacOS Catalina. The issue is that the scan aborts with the following message on the printer display:

Cannot write to:
\\192.168.1.42\Shared
Destination folder is read-only,
has the wrong permissions,
or is no longer available.

I have checked permissions on all the related shared folders and files. I have not found anything wrong. I can access the printer web page from Firefox. From the Scan to Network Folder settings on the printer web page when I test the connection for the defined scan configuration, the test is successful.

I can successfully access the shared folder on the Mac from my Windows system.

Now here's the strange part....

If I put a page in the scanner with a lot of data, the scan fails. If I scan a page with almost no data on the page, the scan succeeds.

If I initiate the scan from the Printers and Scanners in System Preferences, the scan is successful for both types of pages.

I have run a Wireshark trace of both the scans and I can see the place in the trace where the scan fails, but I don't know what the cause is. About half way through the trace, a SMB2 Write Request is sent from the printer to the MacOS, then many TCP packets are exchanged. (Presumably, this is the scan data.) Then I see a SMB Write Response, Error: STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED from the MacOS to the printer. This does not occur in the successful scan.

There is one other bit if information that may be useful. The MacOS is running in a VirtualBox VM client running on a Windows 10 Host.

Any help or suggestions on how to proceed would be very welcome.

Thanks a bunch,

Doc
