Sending Midi Commands from GarageBand to effects plugin (Helix Native)

I have found examples of using various other DAWs to send midi commands to Helix Native or other effects plugins, however, I have not found a way to do so in GarageBand.

I read one article that indicated GarageBand sends midi commands to the virtual instruments only and not to effects plugins.

I did find one post here that someone answered stating that to get midi into a plug-in, you put it into a virtual instrument slot. It further indicated that audio could be routed into it through the side chain in. I saw mention of Logic in that post, however, so it may be applicable to Logic and not GarageBand.

If anyone knows how to accomplish this in GarageBand, I would greatly appreciate any guidance as how to do so.

Best Regards,
