Language switching stops working using globe button button on MBP M1

HI,

I'm using a MBP M1 with English/Arabic keyboard and I'm facing the same issue.

I can switch languages by pressing only the "Globe - Fn" key and sometimes this stops working! A reboot solves the issue!

I believe this is a bug that Apple needs to fix in the next update.

I have absolutely the same issue with my new mac book air m1 and I've reported it to apple, but the issue is still present. Even now when I'm writing this the language change is not working trough the FN button.

Please read the previous messages before adding a new one. All ways how to force fn button works again without restart a laptop were proposed earlier in this topic. This is a temporary solution. We are all waiting for apple to notice this problem. It would be great to pin most important messages on the top about current situation.

Hello, I have the same issue - fn key with the globe icon stops functioning after a certain period until restart ( MacBook Air 2020 M1). The control+Shift+Space solution works somewhat - it doesn't restore the fn functionality it just works as an alternative. Having to perform combinations when having a dedicated key is redundant. Hope apple looks into it.

I have the same problem - dedicated language button which is on the "Fn" button stops working on my MacBook Pro with M1 after some time and the only way to change language after that is to go through the menu on the top.

I am confronting the same problem, having difficulty switching language inputs from English to Mandarin via pressing the globe/fn key. Did Apple contact you regarding this issue? Was it finally fixed?

It's SO annoying. I am a language teacher and I need to switch back and forth from these two languages very often.

It's annoying, disappointing, inconvenient and frustrating that language switch button has never worked as it should. I have purchased computer in January MacBook Air M1and so far language switch button does not work well, only for a limited time.

Sounds good. But we are not hackers. Why don’t you try to fix it with a macOS update instead of telling as to do this strange actions?????

1600€ machine and from December still not fixed from . So annoying and  tells that they are not aware of this problem instead of try to solve it. Sorry but your reply is not helpful for me

Please don't express an opinion with such confidence about a matter you obviously have no idea. There are people who need to write in 2 different languages so we need to change between alphabets frequently. We can use the Fn key for that but sometimes it doesn't respond.

First of all, the Control - Space shortcut no longer has this functionality. It has been changed for a while now (even before last October) into showing or hiding the Spotlight. The new shortcut to change between languages is ^ Space or ^⌥ Space.

Secondly, we obviously know there are other shortcuts using multiple keys but that's the problem. The one-key-shorcut is way more user-friendly and that's why we would like this bug to be fixed.

no, it's works! I add option+shift + space shortcut to switch language and it works, and after switching language using option+shift + space fn button also works. It's really strange

I have the same issue. The language change button stops functioning after some hours and there is need to restart to function again.

the same problem. macbook pro m1. after several working hours (don`t know exactly how much) the button fn with stops working. To fix it temporary, I have to restart my laptop.
