Input latency in garageband on mac

Experiencing inout latency on my macbook pro (2012 model, Catalina), through the same mic and input mixer I have used successfully for the past year. My update to the latest version of Catalina is new, as is the new bluetooth headphones I am using (my old ones were also bluetooth) but again, it's an input problem. The track I'm listening to while recording has no playback latency that I can hear. Any thoughts?
