iPhone 12 Pro and Bluetooth Connectivity.

Does anyone have Bluetooth issues using an iPhone 12 Pro with 2007 - 2009 Chevrolet entertainment systems? I have a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado and I am having issues with Bluetooth calling.

I am able to pair the phone without any problems, but when it comes to using it, the radio is not able to keep the bluetooth connection resulting with the radio and phone switching back and forth between connecting to the vehicle and reverting back to the handset speaker over and over again. A complete fail.

I’ve worked directly through Apple Support to troubleshoot the issue (literally hours worth) with no success. I went through the trouble of returning my first 12 Pro and replacing it with another 12 Pro with the same issue. I took the vehicle to my local Chevy Dealership without success as well. They updated the firmware at the cost of 1 hour labor. (Ouch!) It would have been worth it for me had it worked, but it didn’t.

My previous phone (a iPhone XS) worked without a hitch. I questioning Apple support, I asked what versions of Bluetooth did the XS have vs the 12Pro, turns out they use the same version of Bluetooth. This makes me believe it is some hardware issue with the 12Pro design that has caused the issue.

This is my final attempt to resolve the problem before moving to an after market radio to be able to use the new phone in a handsfree environment. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I pull the trigger on a replacement radio?

This by far has been the biggest headache time wise and expense wise I’ve ever had with an Apple device. Any help is appreciated. TIA

I was disappointed that Apple did not shed any light on this issue. If there is a hardware related issue they should have researched it and informed their support team. IF that is the problem, so be it, just give us an answer. I literally spent money I didn’t need to spend at the car dealership to get the Bluetooth in my vehicle updated along with the hours tying up Apple’s support team trying to troubleshoot the problem. Apple’s support team does a terrific job IMHO. They are the face of Apple and get the brunt of unhappy customers frustration. The team that supports them need to be made aware of that.

Sorry about the rant.

I replaced the factory radio with one compatible with CarPlay, I couldn’t be happier. I saved on the labor cost by installing it myself. I purchased through Crutchfield, another company with a great support system.

I have the same exact problem with my 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 ! New iPhone 12 mini will hook up to Bluetooth and keep switching back and forth annoying .. can leave Bluetooth hooked up and if someone calls me it will answer fine . Rest Bluetooth number of times and same thing . New phone same issue it’s definitely a software issue .. Bluetooth hooks up fine to all my other vehicles just not the 2009 GMC Sierra .. wish they could just fix the issue with a software update

Just like the rest of you, I am having this same problem. My vehicle is a 2009 Chevy Avalanche. Spent multiple hours on the phone with both GM and Apple and at the Apple store trying to solve the issue. Both sides blame the other. My 12 pro max works fine on my wife's 2014 Jeep Cherokee and my wife's iPhone 11 works fine on my Avalanche. My previous phone had been an 8+ and had no issues whatsoever. Fortunately, the people at the Apple store were very understanding and refunded me all of my money and switched me back to my 8+ without any hassle.

In my opinion, Something changed in the Apple software and hardware from the 11 to the 12 to cause this problem.

Thought I’d check in here since it’s been a few months since the Apple data upload for them to diagnose. Saw a few have theirs working. Re-paired my phone with my 2010 Duramax and it seems to work just fine now. Been using it for a few days and I haven’t had any issues. Sure is funny after pretty much all of us were told it’s our vehicles and it turned out to be a software issue. Thanks for the fix Apple.

I believe it is hardware related. My previous phone (XS) worked without a hitch and the new phone (12 Pro,) which caused so many problems both use Bluetooth version 5.0. The only other difference between the phones is the hardware.

Perhaps a different BTooth radio (Hardware)

The XS has a A12 Bionic Chip

The 12 Pro has an A14 Bionic Chip.

The Silverado radio works great with the XS and not so great with the 12 Pro. Nothing at the time was changed in the vehicle other than the phones. Logic leads me too believe it's a hardware issue in the 12 Pro.

I have an issue with my 2009 Escalade, Bluetooth only works 15% of time, it always says its connected but it is not. Most times I try to make a call it tells me the call cant be made on this Bluetooth device but it is actually making the call, I cant hear the person and they cant hear me but the call is being made. Other times my phone rings it will sometimes go to Bluetooth other times it doesn't. Apple was no help, hours on the phone with them, they said something is wrong with my car. My Blackberry worked fine in this same car and my wife's iphone 10 works well in my car. just my new iphone 12 is the problem. I fought like **** to keep my Blackberry but I lost, so now when the office calls I cant answer most of the time. And I cant call back unless I pull over, just like the old days. LOL Thanks Apple.

I've had the same problem with my GMC 2010 Sierra. Iphone10 worked perfectly, but the Iphone12 malfunctioned as you described. The Iphone 12 works in my 2016 Camry. What is different?? It's the Iphone12! Maybe the older bluetooth communication uses a different protocol to communicate and the Iphone12 doesn't accommodate. Shame on Apple for not fixing this. I totally hate it when they try to blame the user and don't take responsibility.

My question to Apple is : Why does your Iphone 10 work perfectly on my GMC stereo but your Iphone 12 does not? You guys missed something!

I've been in contact with a GM dealer via email who claims that GM is working on it. Been emailing them about every week or so but get no indication when a solution could come but it appears it might involve new hardware. Spent many hours with Apple support providing data logs of the issue occuring and the case is still open however no one at Apple returns my emails. Really pathetic that these two companies, GM and Apple can't find a solution. I have another vehicle older than my GM and the iPhone 12 and the BT work. Based on the age of both of my vehicles they both are running at least BT 2.0. Have an Android phone running Android 9 which has BT 5.0 the same as the iPhone 12 and it works in my GM just fine. Convinced neither company sees this as a priority as I can only assume they think that everyone should have a later model GM vehicle. This is my first iPhone that I've purchased and will be my last unless they resolve the issue. I'll go back to my Motorola phone that works. As far as installing new ios updates I review the release notes for the update to see if there is anything BT related and have seen no mention to date.

Even after IOS 15 my IPhone 12 bluetooth still does not work with my 2009 Tahoe. Connects then "says cannot make call with your bluetooth phone ." Works perfectly with an 8, 10 , XR but not the 12. It is definitely an issue with Apple as I have spoken with GM several times with the solution always going back to Apple.

Unfortunately you are stuck with this issue. If you read other posts on this subject, Apple knows it has an issue and apparently does not care that millions of GM car owners can’t use their newest & greatest iPhones with older GM vehicles. Apparently safe, hands free use of their phones isn’t worth a software fix. Also, they don’t bother to tell you before you buy the phone that it doesn’t work with older GM vehicles. Your only option is to spend hundreds of dollars on an new aftermarket radio to replace the one in your Tahoe.

Apple cares more about profit and bottom line than the safety of its loyal customers. Time to switch phone companies.

I own a 2010 Chevy Silverado. My new iPhone 13 simply don't

work with my truck Bluetooth. The phone pairs but I can’t make or receive

calls. Chevrolet says the problem is caused by an iPhone issue. I used a

variety of phones in my truck including, Samsung, Sony, Motorola, Apple,

Blackberry an Lg. All of them works flawlessly with my truck but now with mi

new iPhone I can’t make any calls. I expect Apple resolve the Bluetooth issue with

their phones because replacing the stereo in my truck is an expensive option.
