Why is screen mirroring from iphone to lg tv not working. Preview of fitness session works, countdown of session works. Screen goes black with audio only once session begins. How do I fix this?

I went ahead and bought the Apple 4K tv.
yes it works great! I was able to do as many workout on Fitness+ app that I wanted last night.
i am sore today because of it.
mad states before, my son had surgery and won’t be walking for about 5-6 weeks so that’s why I “bit the bullet” and bought the Apple 4K tv. For your Info, I was told the Apple HD also works for the Fitness+ app. I can confirm that also works because I saw it work at Beat Buy.
PLEASE NOTE: If you get one of the newest Apple TV streamers, you MUST update the firmware BEFORE you will see the Apple Fitness App ( in the way of the rings on your watch or phone or iPad) shows up on the tv.
I guess in the end it doesn’t matter why you buy it. Just know that I confirm on these two options, it does work very well.
As I posted in the official Apple Memo ( or whatever you want to call it) there will be NO OTHER WAY this will work except one of the two steamers.
Also there is NO credit being given to purchase one.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion.
I too am having the same “no mirroring” problem.
Having read many replies here I’m angry and more than a little surprised that Apple would pull a trick like this, in fact I feel let down and in fact conned!
Fortunately having just bought a new Apple Watch I was lucky to get 3 months free subscription for Apple Fitness, otherwise I'd have taken a years sub on it and wasted my money.
I have Apple TV but it’s a 3rd Generation and I refuse to pay out another £179 for a new 4k version.
So, after 5 weeks I haven't used my Fitness+ free Subscription, what's the point squinting at an iPhone when my Samsung 65" TV should be doing the job!
Obviously, I will certainly not be taking a new 1 year (payable) Subscription when the free one ends.
The Fitness+ App is a fantastic quality product and a great idea - what a pity the actual set up is such a disappointment.
I have to agree this is pretty frustrating. I'm invested in the Apple ecosystem with iphones, imacs, ipads, etc. I splurged on a new Apple watch recently, excited to try Fitness +. Fire up Fitness+, turn on screen mirroring, "let's go".......black screen. Oh, let me try using my older gen Apple TV, screen mirroring, "let's go".....black screen.
We use our phones for a lot of things these day....but watching a tiny instructor demonstrate exercises is not one of them. Do they really think every one that wants to use Fitness + is going to go buy a brand new Apple TV?
I have the same problem only with Apple TV so don't think that going out and purchasing one will fix the issue. It doesn't. Doubt I'll be renewing this. Working out using the phone app is not the same.

Unless you have one of the two most recent generations of the AppleTV, you can't use it for Fitness plus.
Just got my apple Watch and was excited to try out the Fitness+. Two seconds into the workout I realized I can’t see a thing on my Iphone 11 pro. No biggie I thought and tried to cast it to my TV with the Hdmi to lightning dongle but only got the black screen like everyone here. What were they thinking people would be able to work out on tiny iphone screens. Oh also Fitness+ still struggling to find apple watch which is already connected. What a shame.
I wish I read this before purchasing a Lightning Digital AV Adapter. I did ask the online chat rep before buying to check it will work and they confirmed it will be ok. It was a lie...
Same issue, I will be returning the £50 adaptor I purchased and I am very disappointed you can not mirror onto the TV. I will keep using my Peleton subscription if this is not fixed...
Wow. That is absolutely ridiculous. I have the watch, the iPhone, the iPad and apple tv 3rd generation. But I can't mirror because my apple tv is too old. What kind of customer service is that??? (and a new air as well. But all these screens are too small for workout!). Apple, do something about this, it does not make any sense!
For Apple staff that may read this, share your planned updates with your call center.

The only thing the iOS update might fix is airplay. Not everybody has airplay compatible devices or a new Apple TV device. What they really need fixed is the ability to use a lightning to HDMI dongle so that everybody can work out on a large device not just people with the latest and greatest equipment.
This has completely frustrated and annoyed me, I’m so disappointed in Apple for not allowing screen share its basic, I’ve got Apple TV, Apple Watch, phone and IPad - seems obvious to make screen sharing possible as it would make the whole experience much better. The FIIT app allows screen sharing.

What an absolute joke from apple, it's like they are purposefully blocking a viable way to use the fitness+ subscription (through your TV) they could allow airplay casting, and they definitely should allow Lightning mirroring, but both are non-exsitent. No way I'm buying £150 apple tv just to cast my phone to a tv, its 2021! wake up apple and sort your products out or you wont have any customers left
I’ve just cancelled the free trial subscription due to lack of screen share. Apple have not listened to any of the above.
To the haters/moderators on here who say this is not a relevant comment and that feedback should go elsewhere, I’ve tried to diplomatically give feedback through multiple mediums and have got nowhere with Apple.

100% chance I’m not subscribing to this purely for this feature. What a huge disappointment, yet somehow not a surprise. Apple trying to ensure that its Apple TV doesn’t become obsolete by blocking other screen casting from other devices is so desperate. I was very confused when the screen cast from my new LG TV just went completely black every time I pressed play on the workout. Doing a hiit workout- or any workout- from a small phone screen is obviously highly ineffective and illogical. I already paid a small fortune for my Series 6 Apple Watch, iPhone, MacBook Pro, etc and this is not the way to retain high paying customers. Will definitely be sticking with the Nike and Peloton workout apps and also consider switching from Apple Watch over to Whoop.
