Fitness+ Apple Watch pairing and Apple TV airplay issues

I've had two issues with Apple Fitness.

1st ... When I try to connect my apple watch to the apple fitness app on apple tv, it won't pair. I get a message that says "pairing cancelled". When I try to connect an "other watch", I will attempt to connect but it never does

2nd ... When I mirror the apple fitness app from my iPhone XR to the apple TV, it doesn't work properly. After I select the video, the tv goes black. It plays the sound but doesn't show the video.

What should I do for both issues?

i had the same issue for days and managed to resolve it by taking the following steps.

1) on the Apple TV you need to go to settings and user accounts to remove my default user account

2) then go to the Home app on your iPhone and delete your apple TV

3) then go back to Apple TV and add your iCloud account again

4) the go to airplay & HomeKit on your Apple TV to set up your home hub

5) then go back to Home on your iPhone to ensure the Apple TV is set up again

6) that should now fix it (go to fitness + on your Apple TV and you should be able to connect it to your watch).

hope that works for you guys as well. Shame Apple support couldn’t help with this, instead had to figure it out myself.

That is what my problem was, I still had the red notification in settings. When you finish setup, I had to put my phone literally right next to my Apple TV for it to finish set up. It didn’t happen right away either, I had to wait a few seconds for it to recognize my iPhone.

Once it finished set up, I was able to connect my watch no problem.

This seems to work. Go into your setting on your Apple TV - Airplay and HomeKit(probably showing a red mark indicating this needs to be addressed) - You need to add your Apple TV to your iCloud account, and you do this by following the prompts which will have you use an iOS device to add the Apple TV to your cloud account via Bluetooth.

This solved my "pairing problem".

The following worked for me....

2 iWatches and 2 Apple TVs. Had no luck yesterday after I updated and reset all Apple TVs and iWatches. Reset (but did not update) all again today. One iWatch recognized on one ATV. Paired the other iWatch on that ATV by choosing "Other" on "Who's Working Out" page and followed directions putting in the code. The pairing took several minutes but worked. On 2nd ATV had to choose "Other" for both watches, get the codes and wait. Worked

I think the trick for me was after the reset and getting the code I waited until the pairing was complete. If I touched the remote during the pairing, it would interrupt the process but my iWatch would then appear on the "Who's Working Out" page. It was there but not fully paired so when I would click on it, it would activate my watch, and would fail by saying "Pairing Canceled." If I tried to go back and do "Other" I would not get a code but the iWatch/ATV would spin saying "connecting" but never get there. This time I kept the iWatch near the ATV and left the remote alone. I wish there was some sort of 'progress bar' on the pairing process showing you that it is working and taking some time.

To recap: Reset update and reset iWatch. Update and reset Apple TV. Attempt to pair. Do not touch remote during pairing process. Wait until pairing is complete.

Good luck.

I had the same problem regarding “pairing cancelled” with my son’s Apple Watch. Here’s what I did to eventually get it to work:

-Make sure AppleTV, iPhone, and Apple Watch are up to date.

-Once iPhone was updated, I opened Fitness, selected Fitness +, and got an error message stated that the iPhone needed to have a passcode and 2FA enabled. (Which it was not).

-Enabled a passcode and 2FA, then opened up Fitness + on AppleTV.

-Selected my son’s Apple Watch and it worked!

I have tried everything mentioned in this thread. I am the default user and HomeKit is under my account. It’s set up properly. My wife’s Apple Watch works fine. I have the latest Apple Watch the Apple TV is the 4K and all software is up to date. I even reset and updated the Apple TV. My iCloud avatar shows up for my watch , but I still cannot connect.

GUYS DROP EVERYTHING; I FIGURED IT OUT!

I spent 3 days on the phone with the same Advisor (shout out to Colin!) and we finally cracked the code.

On your iPhone, go to the Home App and select the Home icon.

Home Settings>Click your iCloud Avatar, and make sure "Show Me on Apple TV" is toggled ON. (See below)

Not sure what this setting even means at all, but I tried every other troubleshooting option in this whole thread, and this is the one that finally fixed it.

Apple Fitness+ is so buggy and requires logging in and out of cloud account multiple times and basically user experience is awful. Secondly, Apple advertised 3 months free subscription on purchase of new watch 6. After trying to fix the fitness+ app bug by signing out of iCloud and signing back in, my 3 months offer changed to 1 month free trial. I hope Apple is reading this to fix their buggy software and give me the original offer of 3 months free trial with fitness+. I wasted so far at least an hour to make this work but in vain. The fitness app and service is way below the bar for Apple. I can't stream/mirror to my Apple TV compatible TV either as i get only audio, not video. Very frustrating experience.

I also had this issue and found it extremely frustrating. After checking and everywhere for a solution and restarting watch, phone & TV and still not having any luck. I also went through the HomeKit and made sure it was set up properly (which it already was). I then discovered that my watch wouldn't connect with our second apple tv either and my wife watch would connect. So I reset just my watch and then once I had set it up again I was able to get it to connect...finally!

Hope this helps.

This solution deserves to be bumped to the top! Many thanks to the original poster mkhalil78! Basically from the Workout app my watch would indicate “connecting” and then quietly fail prior to removing the “home” and default user setup on TV, and reconfiguring it again per the steps above.

So after removing myself as default user and adding again plus reconfiguring Homekit, after launching fitness plus it immediately shows my Default user icon and a watch icon below. That did not previously occur. Prior to removing the default user and homekit it would only say to run the workout app, not show the user icon with watch icon. Their latest Home install process must set some metadata config parameters that were not set previously and the correct defaults do not get updated for users that had it installed before.

I agree, I spoke to 3 different people, all very polite, that tried to help. it took two days to find a manager who could fix this problem. All I needed was the home app and complete the set up on Apple TV. Apple can simply add the solution to a trouble shooting list and this frustration would end for those in search of a solution. I worked out yesterday using apple tv. It worked great. HOMEKIT and the HOME app are the key
