Fitness+ Apple Watch pairing and Apple TV airplay issues

I've had two issues with Apple Fitness.

1st ... When I try to connect my apple watch to the apple fitness app on apple tv, it won't pair. I get a message that says "pairing cancelled". When I try to connect an "other watch", I will attempt to connect but it never does

2nd ... When I mirror the apple fitness app from my iPhone XR to the apple TV, it doesn't work properly. After I select the video, the tv goes black. It plays the sound but doesn't show the video.

What should I do for both issues?

I had this issue too. I created a support case with Apple, and they did not have an answer either. However, after much troubleshooting, I have appeared to resolve my issue. The "Home" Setup on the Apple TV was never completed. Once I did this, it started working 100% of the time.

On the Apple TV go to Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit. I selected the Room to change the Name, and then it paired my phone with the Apple TV, setting up "My Home".

Go back to the Fitness App and it should pair.

Strange...when your first pulled up settings - airplay and HomeKit, did you have the option to connect to iCloud using Bluetooth and a nearby iOS device?

it seems like your Apple TV is not connecting to iCloud and this is normally something you do when accessing - airplay and HomeKit- are pulled up. It’s just a matter of competing the home setup.

I saw an earlier post where they went Settings>Airplay and HomeKit then selected the Room to change the name and it paired.

The following worked for me....

2 iWatches and 2 Apple TVs. Had no luck yesterday after I updated and reset all Apple TVs and iWatches. Reset (but did not update) all again today. One iWatch recognized on one ATV. Paired the other iWatch on that ATV by choosing "Other" on "Who's Working Out" page and followed directions putting in the code. The pairing took several minutes but worked. On 2nd ATV had to choose "Other" for both watches, get the codes and wait. Worked

I think the trick for me was after the reset and getting the code I waited until the pairing was complete. If I touched the remote during the pairing, it would interrupt the process but my iWatch would then appear on the "Who's Working Out" page. It was there but not fully paired so when I would click on it, it would activate my watch, and would fail by saying "Pairing Canceled." If I tried to go back and do "Other" I would not get a code but the iWatch/ATV would spin saying "connecting" but never get there. This time I kept the iWatch near the ATV and left the remote alone. I wish there was some sort of 'progress bar' on the pairing process showing you that it is working and taking some time.

To recap: Reset update and reset iWatch. Update and reset Apple TV. Attempt to pair. Do not touch remote during pairing process. Wait until pairing is complete.

Good luck.

I had the same problem regarding “pairing cancelled” with my son’s Apple Watch. Here’s what I did to eventually get it to work:

-Make sure AppleTV, iPhone, and Apple Watch are up to date.

-Once iPhone was updated, I opened Fitness, selected Fitness +, and got an error message stated that the iPhone needed to have a passcode and 2FA enabled. (Which it was not).

-Enabled a passcode and 2FA, then opened up Fitness + on AppleTV.

-Selected my son’s Apple Watch and it worked!

I’ve had ALL these same issues - first with Apple TV - it’s still sketchy. However, my phone will NOT connect to my iPhone - the app will not find my watch then times out I’ve tried everything - I’m on with Apple right now troubleshooting. I really feel it’s a Bluetooth connectivity issue with the APP that needs an update but we will find out.

Well, let me say this the service is fantastic and it will be worth the trouble! I think a lot of the "pairing canceled" problems can be attributed back to he need to go into Settings>Airplay and Homekit, and activating Apple TV as an iCloud device(which you do via bluetooth with an iPhone or other iOS device).

My Apple TV would not connect via bluetooth to my phone and I had to physically unplug the Apple TV, and then go back thought the motions.

Best of luck!

I finally bit the bullet last night after closing all my rings first LOL... Reset watch from watch settings only. Let it do its thing, synced back from a backup (not new), and it connected to two of my ATV's. Still have to tried bedroom but at this point don't see why it wound't work.

So up to this point; I did everything on ATV, reset them, disconnect iCloud, go back in, and add HomeKit. Nothing worked until I reset watch itself 🙄...

Also note, I have x3 ATV's. On one I reset it, on 2nd I disconnected from iCloud and rejoined, on 3rd did nothing. All this before resetting watch. The only ATV I have not tested since watch reset was bedroom ATV which is the one I reset when testing one last couple of days.

Looks like reset watch I best course if you have tried all other things here.

I have tried everything mentioned in this thread. I am the default user and HomeKit is under my account. It’s set up properly. My wife’s Apple Watch works fine. I have the latest Apple Watch the Apple TV is the 4K and all software is up to date. I even reset and updated the Apple TV. My iCloud avatar shows up for my watch , but I still cannot connect.

Apple Fitness+ is so buggy and requires logging in and out of cloud account multiple times and basically user experience is awful. Secondly, Apple advertised 3 months free subscription on purchase of new watch 6. After trying to fix the fitness+ app bug by signing out of iCloud and signing back in, my 3 months offer changed to 1 month free trial. I hope Apple is reading this to fix their buggy software and give me the original offer of 3 months free trial with fitness+. I wasted so far at least an hour to make this work but in vain. The fitness app and service is way below the bar for Apple. I can't stream/mirror to my Apple TV compatible TV either as i get only audio, not video. Very frustrating experience.

I tried this but my iPhone 11 won’t pair with the Apple TV. It just says connecting for ever. If I cancel and try to connect again it doesn’t even show the option to connect at all. I have to restart both my Apple TV and phone for the option to pop up to connect my iPhone to Apple TV from my iPhone Bluetooth settings. This is a bummer, wasting my free trial on this. Haven’t been able to use this.
