Fitness+ Apple Watch pairing and Apple TV airplay issues

I've had two issues with Apple Fitness.

1st ... When I try to connect my apple watch to the apple fitness app on apple tv, it won't pair. I get a message that says "pairing cancelled". When I try to connect an "other watch", I will attempt to connect but it never does

2nd ... When I mirror the apple fitness app from my iPhone XR to the apple TV, it doesn't work properly. After I select the video, the tv goes black. It plays the sound but doesn't show the video.

What should I do for both issues?

i had the same issue for days and managed to resolve it by taking the following steps.

1) on the Apple TV you need to go to settings and user accounts to remove my default user account

2) then go to the Home app on your iPhone and delete your apple TV

3) then go back to Apple TV and add your iCloud account again

4) the go to airplay & HomeKit on your Apple TV to set up your home hub

5) then go back to Home on your iPhone to ensure the Apple TV is set up again

6) that should now fix it (go to fitness + on your Apple TV and you should be able to connect it to your watch).

hope that works for you guys as well. Shame Apple support couldn’t help with this, instead had to figure it out myself.

Let me offer a solution for your main account working for Fitness+ on Apple TV but “other user” not working.

I had to turn on “Family Sharing” on my account (did do with my phone in settings). You will see the available apps to share and for me, it was just TV+ and Fitness+. I then invited my wife via text message. She accepted the invite. I had her then restart her watch and I restarted the Apple TV. From there when I went to Fitness+ on the Apple TV, her account would now show so I could select that instead of “other”. I picked her account and things worked flawlessly. Again, this is specific to not being able to log in as “other user”. I hope it helps.

I had this issue also & had a few conversations with AppleCare support to resolve it.

First of all, the Apple TV MUST be added to the Home app, which wouldn't work for me. Everytime I tried, it kept saying that I needed to log into iCloud, which I already was. (I was on the latest versions of software on my phone, watch & Apple TV).

In the Apple TV settings, I had to "restore & update" the Apple TV & when setting up the Apple TV again, it did prompt me to set up the Apple TV for AirPlay 2 & iCloud in the Home app. However, I still continued to get the "pairing canceled" error message when trying to start an Apple Fitness+ workout on Apple TV & pair/connect to my watch. They had me log out of iCloud on my phone and log back in. They had me log out of my User on Apple TV and log back in. That prompted the necessary "red badge" in the Apple TV settings under AirPlay and HomeKit, which allowed me to finish setting my Apple TV up in the Home app. Then it all started working! I hope that this advice helps others!!!!!!!

For pairing cancelled three things must be completed first in the order shown:

1) Two factor authentication must be enabled on your apple id

2) Keychain must be enabled in icloud for your apple id

3) Make sure apple tv and watch OS are updated.

3) After 1 - 3 are complete, you must complete Home Kit setup.

Apple doesn't tell us all this when we get the new watch. The commercials lead you to believe it's as simple as getting a watch, turning on your apple tv and opening the fitness app. Apple should be more thorough in letting us know what should be done.

New apple watch worked fine with iPhone 8+ and Apple TV until iOS update yesterday (Jan 29th, 2021) on Apple watch. Then pairing with Apple TV stopped working. Updated iOS on Apple TV and iPhone but still wouldn't pair. Had to call Apple Support and they were great and it turned out we didn't have HomeKit installed on iPhone so when new update didn't find it, then pairing stopped working. After setting up HomeKit, pairing worked again. Thanks Apple for great support.

I ended up removing my AppleTV from my Home, then logging my AppleID profile out of the AppleTV (in prefs/users) and deleting myself as a user entirely. Then logged back in with the same Apple ID as if I were a new user and added the AppleTV back to my home as if it were new. That did the trick for me — was able to pair the watch to the AppleTV after that.

Assuming that your iPhone is on 14.3 and your watch is on 7.2 the watch should connect to Apple TV when the watch is near the Apple TV box or select the Apple TV option from your iPhone or tablet when the workout begins. Currently AirPlay is not available with Apple Fitness + on Apple device nor AirPlay supported smart tv's, that includes trying to screen mirror.

Strange...when your first pulled up settings - airplay and HomeKit, did you have the option to connect to iCloud using Bluetooth and a nearby iOS device?

it seems like your Apple TV is not connecting to iCloud and this is normally something you do when accessing - airplay and HomeKit- are pulled up. It’s just a matter of competing the home setup.

I saw an earlier post where they went Settings>Airplay and HomeKit then selected the Room to change the name and it paired.
