Fitness+ Apple Watch pairing and Apple TV airplay issues

I've had two issues with Apple Fitness.

1st ... When I try to connect my apple watch to the apple fitness app on apple tv, it won't pair. I get a message that says "pairing cancelled". When I try to connect an "other watch", I will attempt to connect but it never does

2nd ... When I mirror the apple fitness app from my iPhone XR to the apple TV, it doesn't work properly. After I select the video, the tv goes black. It plays the sound but doesn't show the video.

What should I do for both issues?

i had the same issue for days and managed to resolve it by taking the following steps.

1) on the Apple TV you need to go to settings and user accounts to remove my default user account

2) then go to the Home app on your iPhone and delete your apple TV

3) then go back to Apple TV and add your iCloud account again

4) the go to airplay & HomeKit on your Apple TV to set up your home hub

5) then go back to Home on your iPhone to ensure the Apple TV is set up again

6) that should now fix it (go to fitness + on your Apple TV and you should be able to connect it to your watch).

hope that works for you guys as well. Shame Apple support couldn’t help with this, instead had to figure it out myself.

Nope, no red asterisks on any device. And all devices are 100% updated, including a full reset/setup of the ATV including the "home" setup that you found helpful. I also tried the suggestion of holding the watch close to the TV and that did not work, unfortunately.

I've found that I can use the Fitness+ app on the phone to screen share with the ATV but clearly using the native ATV app would be preferable.

Interesting, because it seems to have resolved this issue for most people, and resolved for me on both Apple TV's. I could consistently reproduce it.

The other thing I noticed on my phone is when I used the remote app to control the Apple TV, it would list one of them twice, one of which was a "ghost" that did not work. I resolved that issue at the same time, and that may have contributed to the pairing being resolved. I am assuming since you did a full reset that you probably don't have that issue too.

Yes, this is the same issue I’m having. It looks like it’s going to connect but doesn’t. No error message. The Watch reverts back to the default Workouts screen and the TV never displays anything but the “Open Workouts…” message.

Apple Watch 6. Apple TV 4K. 14.3 on everything. I have restarted all devices but I’m not going to do a hard reset, particularly on the Watch. Too much of a time commitment and too many things can go wrong.

I tried this but my iPhone 11 won’t pair with the Apple TV. It just says connecting for ever. If I cancel and try to connect again it doesn’t even show the option to connect at all. I have to restart both my Apple TV and phone for the option to pop up to connect my iPhone to Apple TV from my iPhone Bluetooth settings. This is a bummer, wasting my free trial on this. Haven’t been able to use this.

Something in 14.3 seriously screwed up everything. I tried the suggestions here including removing and re-adding the default Apple ID on the Apple TV and now the automatic pairing from the phone doesn't work, neither does any keyboard entry from the phone, I had to use the remote for everything.

I love Apple but the magic of everything "just works" is long gone. I still can't get my watch to show up on Apple TV using Fitness+. (And yes, all my devices are compatible).

Hard reset of Apple TV did not work for me. Screen still black when I try to play the actual workout video.... although the Preview video *does* display on the TV (& did before the reset).

My Apple TV is 1st generation - maybe that's the problem? Fitness+ does say that it supports Apple TV 4k and HD.... what version of Apple TV do you have?

(I have never had the "pairing cancelled" problem, that is not the issue)

I have a separate but I assume related issue where when I open the Fitness app is says 'Open the Workout App on Apple Watch to Connect'. When I do this a connect button appears in the Workout app. When I tap it, it says 'Connecting' then the connecting screen disappears and takes me back to the workout list and there's no change on the Apple TV Fitness+ app, it still says 'Open the Workout App'.

Anyone else have this?
