Freestyle LibreLink no longer working with iphone

I have been using the Freestyle Libre system for about 18 months, and have been pleased with the performance. Today, I went through the sensor replacement routine, and activated the sensor using the handheld Freestyle scanner, as usual. However, when I tried to recognize the sensor with the iphone app, could not detect the sensor. Thought it might be the sensor, so replaced it. Again, activation with the handheld scanner succeeded, but no communication with the iphone app. Using IOS 14.2. Could it be a mechanism in the iphone itself has failed?

Just to follow up my previous post regarding this issue to confirm that once delivered the phone to apple assistance after 3 days they replaced it with a new one which is now working properly with my free style sensor. The NFC chip apparently failed.

For good order's sake you must do a full back up and after restoring the back-up to a replacement phone you will need to

re-confirm all the passwords and identity credentials that you may have - this is rather more complicated than I would have immagined after a week I still have a couple of apps needing some attention due to having forgotten initial passwords as the security systems identify the replacement phone as "a new device". So bottom line is don't hesitate and get the phone to an apple assistance store immediately.

I had the same issue. My old iPhone was reading the Libre sensor, but my “New” phone was not, even though it was the same configuration. I was able so solve my issue by downloading the NFC reader app (“GoToTags”) from the apple App Store. After installation, the Libre app began to recognize the sensor. It solved the issue for me, so I hope it helps you.

I have this issue also, started after last IOS update. Started with a Current sensor in use, replaced the sensor, iPhone would not read it, started with reader, that worked, but iPhone still would not read. Called FreeStyle help desk (855 632-8658). They are aware and their techs are researching. Waiting for a call back. They replaced the sensor that I changed out.,

Hello, everybody. I have solved the problem in the Genius Bar of the Apple Store where I bought the iPhone.

The bad news is that it is a hardware problem. The NFC antenna deteriorates and ceases working, which affects the NFC reader and can affect also Apple Pay (which is the other "side"). It was my case, but not sure if both things happen always together or not; some report only problems with the reader and not with Apple Pay. The issue is not detected by the hardware tests of Apple. In fact, what they have done is to test Apple pay with a NFC reader and see it doesn't work. The really bad news is that all the antennas are a part of the motherboard and the only repair consists in replacing it entirely, which costs dearly. In Spain, around 400 €, or $500.

Of course, come to this point, I would have considered buying an iPhone SE (mine was an 8), which is only 100 € more or so. But the good news for me is that it was covered by the guarantee, because here in Europe it is 2 years. So I have gone out of the shop with a shiny, mint, brand new iPhone 8. I have restored it from the last backup and the NFC reader works perfectly with LibreLink. I had the latest iOS update (14.7.1), so it seems to me that the claims of lack of update of the Abbot App are not justified.

@Sewblind13 --> Abbott is very helpful and repalce any sensors that fail or for various reasons get detached I always keep the serial number printed on the bottom of the box and also the tin foil cap of the applier both have the s/n it can also be olcated on the reader (last 3 sensors are listed). The main issue is the NFC chip on the phone or NFC antenna as some have suggested previously. I had mine replaced by apple support last month and it's now working fine...

Hi my iphone SE 2020 also developed this bug, it started off erratically reading NFC and now totally fails. After contacting abbot they advised that this being due to the recent updates of IOS which apparently have reduced the amount of power dedicated to the NFC sensor in order to preserve battery life on iphone 8 and SE - mine is now running on14.7.1. they suggest to adopt the following work around :

1) remove covers or other obstructions

2) close all background apps

3) switch to airplane mode

Needless to say rather a hassle and to be honest didn't work at all with me but presume could be useful to somebody in the community

@CONN28D refering to your last just to point out that it is possible to use both i.e. the reader has to be the first to initiate a new sensor, once done then you can iniate your iphone thus allowing both to work/read your glucose levels. If you iniate the iphone first you will not be able to use the reader......having said that if you are having problems with iphone SE (2020) I strongly suggest you send it to iphone service center as apparently some iphones are having issues with the NFC chip - the phone will be replaced with a new one.

In less than a year, I've been through two SE 2020's that both had the NFC chip fail... I don't know what's wrong with Apple's NFC chips, but if they're all prone to failling I don't think it's worth it to get a new iphone. Maybe that the motherboard design changed on the recent models? But i'm not sure it's even worth trying at this point. They'll eventually have to solve the problem if they're selling Airtags....

My first SE was replaced under warranty, the second one not... So my choice is to pay full price for a new Iphone or use a Miao Miao reader and use the iphone's bluetooth connection instead to have continuous readings.
