Freestyle LibreLink no longer working with iphone

I have been using the Freestyle Libre system for about 18 months, and have been pleased with the performance. Today, I went through the sensor replacement routine, and activated the sensor using the handheld Freestyle scanner, as usual. However, when I tried to recognize the sensor with the iphone app, could not detect the sensor. Thought it might be the sensor, so replaced it. Again, activation with the handheld scanner succeeded, but no communication with the iphone app. Using IOS 14.2. Could it be a mechanism in the iphone itself has failed?

Just to follow up my previous post regarding this issue to confirm that once delivered the phone to apple assistance after 3 days they replaced it with a new one which is now working properly with my free style sensor. The NFC chip apparently failed.

For good order's sake you must do a full back up and after restoring the back-up to a replacement phone you will need to

re-confirm all the passwords and identity credentials that you may have - this is rather more complicated than I would have immagined after a week I still have a couple of apps needing some attention due to having forgotten initial passwords as the security systems identify the replacement phone as "a new device". So bottom line is don't hesitate and get the phone to an apple assistance store immediately.

Frustratingly I have been unable to solve this issue despite, many emails to Apple and freestyle. As a further test my wife downloaded the app on her older iPhone model and it scanned the sensor fine. On her phone in the “control centre” there is an icon that shows you NFC is there, this is not available on my phone nor is it available under settings to add to the control centre. My phone will not work on Apple Pay either, yet no one can tell me how to turn it on. Very frustrating.

My husband just got his freestyle libre 2 and tried to connect with the iPhone. We got Ames sage that the app is an incompatible version. We contacted the Abbott customer support and they stated that the Libre 2 no longer works with the iPhone that they are working on it but they don’t have a timeline. Very frustrating as this is the whole reason my husband got this particular device. .

I have also been experiencing the same issue with Freestyle not scanning on my iPhone 11. It seemed to be shortly after I returned the scanner ironically since I had no use for it and could use the app on my phone anyways. Plus the convenience of using your phone is unmatchable since you always have it with you. I had been talking to Apple and Abbott for a month now and they blame each other. I believe Apple though since they actually ran a diagnostic test on my phone and nothing is wrong. Also I can scan everything else in the world with 100% success. I then used a friends phone who has android, downloaded the app, signed in and it worked immediately. But then I decided to search online for people with Android having this issue and they do too. It’s clearly not Apple. It appears Freestyle might be blocking IP addresses if they don’t have a scanner, to try to force people to buy one. Not sure if that’s true or not (maybe they do have an annoying issue with software going on at the moment but every phone call to them, they don’t mention that), but it would be a shame if they were doing that to something that they are already profiting tremendously off of and to people that need it. I personally switched to Dexcom this afternoon after making sure it was ok with my insurance provider first. There may be other continuous glucose monitors out there too. The best thing to do is to just research other brands and see whether your insurance will allow it. I wasn’t sure what else to do, since after a month, they weren’t fixing the issue and I needed it. I hope this helps

Perhaps there is a problem with the iPhone 12, I know another Spanish guy that says the same as you. Mine is an 8, and the only things they have done is the hw test (normal) and check the emulation of NFC tags (Apple Pay) with a reader. They have seen it didn't work, had the phone open to check it wasn't altered, and give me a new one. That's all I know.

PS: I tested the app with a 7 and an XR and worked also perfectly.

EDIT: There is an NFC reader in iOS, you can put it on the Control Center. The sensor is detected as "incorrect format" (or whatever the back-translation is). So, if this works for you is a problem of Abbot. If not, is the iPhone.

I have been having the same problem. The app just stopped seeing the sensor when I try and take a reading, no error messages. I’ve found two work arounds

  1. Reboot the phone and once up immediately open the FreeStyle app and take a reading.
  2. Plug the phone in and having it charging while I take the reading.

I suspect it may be a power conservation issue with the phone turn down the sensitivity on the NFR.

I spent just under 1 hour today talking to the Abbott spokesperson (trainee). The end result is that he emphatically stated that either the iPhone 11 I have or the Freestyle Libre 2 reader will work when sensor is first scanned, but not both. It all depends on what you first scanned the sensor with. I explained that while I was on the Libre 14 day system that you could use both the iphone and/or the reader, but you needed to scan the reader first. He again told me it was not possible to use both. I ended the call.
