Big Sur - New/Open/Save dialog box -size won't save

New issue on Big Sur 11.1 -- my open and save dialog boxes "revert" to the original size.

I've tried many applications, I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've relaunched Finder, I've resized the screen (default > scaled), yet... it remains the default, small size (which is irritating).

This is new in 11.1 - 11.01 and 10.x never had this issue.

Hey there guys!

I had same issue here (iMac 27' 2019) with BigSur 11.1 and fixed it by reseting Finder preferences.

To do that:

From your Finder "Go" menu > "Go to folder" and enter

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Click Go.

Delete the plist file.

Then, restart.

I did it yesterday and it's been fixed. Let's see if the issue will come back.

@VikingOSX – agreed – the more folks submit feedback directly to the macOS product team the more likely Apple might be to listen to users on this huge UI Design screwup.

Personally I submitted it as a "bug" with the complaint "I'm reporting this as a bug because it has to be, I can't believe somebody in UI Design knowingly thought this was a good idea"

Not only does the save/open/print dialog box not "remember" the size/location from last use. But it's also difficult EVERY TIME because I have to perform TWO actions:

1) option left click the bottom right corner – which expands the box both horizontally and vertically at the same time – does not work unless you click in the EXACT right spot (which in itself is irritating as eff) and then...

2) I also have to make the finder sidebar wide enough to see which folder I need to navigate to.

Whomever thought this was a good idea needs their head examined.

The original poster put the green solved on my post as it solved his issue, since no one outside of Apple engineering can solve the real problem that I discussed. A green solved here certainly does not mean that the macOS product team has fixed the issue, as it will require a future update to Big Sur, provided there is internal Apple motivation to fix it.
