Apple Watch not pairing with fitness plus on IPAD

Hi!

Was very excited to be able to workout from home with this app but am quickly realizing its many limitations. First, working out with an iPhone sized screen is great if you are a gerbil or small field mouse but 6’4” bouncing around trying to see a spec on the screen is not what I’d call a revolutionary experience as i would imagine their videos would claim.

My ipad is current and i have the fitness app downloaded. Bluetooth and wireless both on... Workouts will play but my ipad doesn’t find my watch. Might as well be watching YOUTUBE workout videos for free if Apple can’t sort this out. Certainly not worth 10 bucks a month.

Equally important.. people want to be able to see their workouts on their big screen. This sort of thing is great when the whole family can join in. We do not have Apple TV, nor will we ever buy Apple TV. Trying to make people possess both to enjoy workout content on non Apple TV’s is a bad business move IMHO. I’ll dump this app like a bad habit before having to pay if they don’t add that capability.

APPLE-you have BILLIONS in the bank, let us cast to our non apple products or lose millions of potential subscribers who get tired of dancing in front of a 5 inch screen.

FIXED (eventually)

I tried most of the fixes & Helpful responses offered here but none of them immediately fixed the issue.

The next steps I carried out which resulted in it working:

-Turned my iPhone off

-opened activity app on my watch, with the iPad nearby and unlocked.

-The ‘Handoff’ fitness+ app on my iPad recognised the watch had it open and I was able to open (still unable to recognise watch when attempting to start a session though so unsure if this part is relevant or not)

-Next, started an activity using my iPhone which connected to my watch as expected.

-while the activity was running, I attempted to start an activity using the iPad app and as it looked for the watch it gave an error along the lines of “you are already in a session so you can’t start another” basically it had some connectivity to my phone / watch.

-upon finishing the activity (on my phone), I restarted the fitness app on my iPad and tried again..... and it worked. The iPad (Pro) successfully connected to the watch and I was able to connect to my TV using a USB-C hub.

i have been using the fitness plus app for a couple of weeks on the iPad now and it hasn’t had any further issues.

Not saying it will work for others but hopefully it will for some!

good luck!

I had issue with iPad but not the iPhone. I tried restarting devices as well as log off and log back in. Neither worked.

I fixed the issue by launching the Home app on iPad for the very first time. I never used the app once on the iPad before. Just launch the app and let it fully loaded, then click Continue button on the welcome message. Then I come back to the fitness app and it works. There might be some shared components between home and fitness.

I was able to get both of my IPads to work with Apple Fitness and my Apple watch by signing out of Icloud in both , deleting the Fitness app on both, signing back into Icloud and then redownloading the Apple Fitness app on the IPad. I did each Ipad separately. Now when I start a workout on either Ipad the activity starts up on my watch.

FIXED!!! After trying everything I read online and over 80 minutes with Apple via chat I discovered I had some apps that showed "waiting" and when I clicked on them it said they needed to be updated so I just deleted them. Scoured my iPad and deleted all those and then magically the watch paired so Apple Fitness + works properly.

I hope this helps!

Was on the phone with support and was told that using Apple Watch on iPad with Fitness+ is not possible. After scrolling here, this is what worked:

  1. Signed out of iCloud on iphone
  2. Signed out of iCloud on ipad
  3. Signed into iCloud on iphone
  4. Signed into iCloud on iPad
  5. Launched Home app on iphone
  6. Launched Home app on iPad
  7. Launched Fitness+ app

and it worked!

Apple Watch S5

Ipad Pro 2018

iphone 12 pro

all with most current updates

  1. Launched Home app on ipad

I solved it by simply logging out of my iCloud account on the iPad and logging back in. None of the data is lost. It seems the problem arose after I changed my iCloud password and/or the Apple Watch OS upgraded. Anyhow, it also occurred on my Apple TV and the solution was the same. One side effect, back on my laptop and iPhone, I had to re-enter my password to "enable iCloud services". I'm sure it was somehow related. All good now.

Not sure if this will help everyone, but I toggled bluetooth off and on again on my watch (SE), worked fine after that, and has continued to do so on my devices (iPhone SE, iPad mini 4). I'd previously tried turning all my devices off and on again, removing and adding the Fitness app, signing out of iCloud, but the toggle was the only thing that seemed to work for my particular case, after all that! Hope it helps someone else.

My issue was that the apple watch and iPad wasn't on the latest OS. It's now on watchOS 7.2, iPhone is on iOS 14.3 and, iPad is on iPadOS 14.3. I also made sure I was using the same iCloud account across the three devices. The fitness app on iPad (with bluetooth on) didn't seem to trigger the watch until after I selected "Lets Go" on a workout.

FIX

I had this issue.

You need to make sure you are signed into the ‘Home’ app (orange house icon’). You need to be signed in to Home on the iPad and iPhone. Probably worth opening it on the watch too to be sure, that’s what I did. I restarted my phone and bingo the watch connected to the iPad for Fitness+

Hope this works for others.
