Apple Watch not pairing with fitness plus on IPAD

Hi!

Was very excited to be able to workout from home with this app but am quickly realizing its many limitations. First, working out with an iPhone sized screen is great if you are a gerbil or small field mouse but 6’4” bouncing around trying to see a spec on the screen is not what I’d call a revolutionary experience as i would imagine their videos would claim.

My ipad is current and i have the fitness app downloaded. Bluetooth and wireless both on... Workouts will play but my ipad doesn’t find my watch. Might as well be watching YOUTUBE workout videos for free if Apple can’t sort this out. Certainly not worth 10 bucks a month.

Equally important.. people want to be able to see their workouts on their big screen. This sort of thing is great when the whole family can join in. We do not have Apple TV, nor will we ever buy Apple TV. Trying to make people possess both to enjoy workout content on non Apple TV’s is a bad business move IMHO. I’ll dump this app like a bad habit before having to pay if they don’t add that capability.

APPLE-you have BILLIONS in the bank, let us cast to our non apple products or lose millions of potential subscribers who get tired of dancing in front of a 5 inch screen.

FIXED (eventually)

I tried most of the fixes & Helpful responses offered here but none of them immediately fixed the issue.

The next steps I carried out which resulted in it working:

-Turned my iPhone off

-opened activity app on my watch, with the iPad nearby and unlocked.

-The ‘Handoff’ fitness+ app on my iPad recognised the watch had it open and I was able to open (still unable to recognise watch when attempting to start a session though so unsure if this part is relevant or not)

-Next, started an activity using my iPhone which connected to my watch as expected.

-while the activity was running, I attempted to start an activity using the iPad app and as it looked for the watch it gave an error along the lines of “you are already in a session so you can’t start another” basically it had some connectivity to my phone / watch.

-upon finishing the activity (on my phone), I restarted the fitness app on my iPad and tried again..... and it worked. The iPad (Pro) successfully connected to the watch and I was able to connect to my TV using a USB-C hub.

i have been using the fitness plus app for a couple of weeks on the iPad now and it hasn’t had any further issues.

Not saying it will work for others but hopefully it will for some!

good luck!

Sorry to hear that Borderlineatoms999. Wonder if the Ipad hardware model makes a difference. Mine is an Ipad Air 2. I figured taking the drastic action of erasing all data and content, I could see at what step the app works or does not work, knowing that I could go back to my backup if it made no difference. Luckily for me, after I erased and started setting up the Ipad as a brand new device, I basically started the Home app as my first activity, then downloaded the Fitness+ app as my next activity and that seemed to do the trick. Then I went ahead and started adding in my other apps I use frequently. At this point I am planning to not use the backup anymore.

After recent update I experienced the same issue. Tried all that was written here and contacted Apple support, which didn’t help. One thing stuck in my mind while talking to Apple support. They asked me if I signed under same ID in all my devices. And I was. I was told to wait for the new update and I didn’t mind.

Later on today I decided to change the password and re-login on all devices and somehow this password changing fixed an issue. Hope this will be helpful for someone who is experiencing the same problem.

I had posted a reply back on 12/20 to original post where I said turning off Bluetooth on phone and opening Fitness app on my iPad and it worked. I now remember downloading the Home App to both the iPad and the iPhone before I did the Bluetooth thing. I'm now thinking based on Daniell3's post that perhaps it was the Home App that got it to work for me.
