New M1 mac mini crashes for no apparent reason???

Never had an issue with my Mac mini 2018 but this new Silicone M1 keeps crashing on me. It does it with FCPX, Compressor, Toast and just now on this website with Safari running alone. I did the migration from the old Mac to this new one so it's the same software I had before. It goes into "slow motion" spinning wheel and has to be rebooted to reset software issues. It then takes a long time to shut down but restarts quickly. I can't begin to describe the work around I have go through to get a video on a DVD.

Just to make things interesting the mouse goes "invisible man" It's there and you can click on things but you can't see a mouse until you reboot. My external Blu-Ray burner used to work fine but it now spits out expensive coasters. DVDs that do burn often show up as empty boxes on the desktop and clicking on them is a challenge. Essentially you have to "box" them with the mouse and drag them to the DVD player app. Anyone else having similar issues?

I "send to Apple" all those "Problem Reports" hoping it helps develop fixes for everyone. The Mac is three weeks old and I'm somewhat disappointed. I wish I hadn't sold the 2018 Mac mini last week, I'd return this one. Now I have to live with it.

Any suggestions on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mac mini 2018 or later

1) You seem to have an "Antivirus One" application. Third party antivirus should not be used.

2)

There is a lot of old stuff in there.

Kernel extensions that are old may cause problems. This may be even more complicated by the fact that these extensions were not only coded for an older version of the OS, they were for a completely different system architecture.

I would get rid of the EyeTV stuff - it cannot be used, anyway.

Also, the external SSD stuff by Samsung also should not be used.

Kernel Extensions:

/Applications/Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate.app

SystemAudioRecorder.kext (1.1.0 - SDK 10.6)

/Library/Extensions

Soundflower.kext (2.0b2 - SDK 10.10)

EyeTVAfaTechHidBlock.kext (1.1)

EyeTVCinergy450AudioBlock.kext (1.1)

EyeTVCinergyXSAudioBlock.kext (1.1)

EyeTVEmpiaAudioBlock.kext (1.1)

EyeTVVoyagerAudioBlock.kext (1.1)

SamsungPortableSSDDriver.kext (1.5.03 - SDK 10.7)

SamsungPortableSSDDriverX.kext (1.5.09 - SDK 10.12)

SONYDeviceType04.kext (1.4.0.11070 - SDK 10.9)

~/Library/Services/ToastIt.service/Contents/MacOS

TDIXController.kext (2.0)

In the Finder, press Command-Shift-G and type or paste

/Library/Extensions

and drag all the EyeTV files to the trash, and the Samsung ones. Enter your password when requested, then immediately restart your mac.

3) Several of the Intel applications that you have seem to be not fully working under Rosetta, the report mentions several Rosetta errors.

I didn’t suggest you to buy anything. Etrecheck is a diagnostic utility that you can get free from the App Store. The thing is when one says “my mac is crashing” the only way one can help is to have information about the mac and its software. There could be many reasons for a crash and without that sort off information we’re flying blind.

And as a thread grows, someone may come and say “me too “ but often the problem may be completely different.

PS. While we're at it, how can you tell which apps are 32bit? Apparently there are a lot of them on my Mac...

It’s easy to see which applications are 32 bit - see below.

NOTE: 32 bit applications don’t work at all, so they also do not cause any trouble. They just sit there. The only benefit you get by deleting them is the drive space they were using.

To see which applications are 32 bit: hold down the Option key and from the Apple menu choose System Information...

Under Software, click Applications. You can sort by any column as usual by clicking. Just click the column that describes the kind so you immediately see all Universal, Intel 64 bits or Intel 32 bits grouped.

Finally tested the iMac following the "How to" instructions on the web. Couldn't get the procedure to work with the teck who forgot to mention disconnecting everything first! The iMac mini is OK according to the test so its most likely a software issue. Still crashes and suffers from invisible mouse syndrome... and yes the software was all up-to-date.

Luis,

Happy holidays and thanks for your help. The province of Ontario is about to lock down completely for 14 days starting Boxing Day so I'll have a lot of time to work on this.

Im sure you're right with old apps but I have a lot of files I'm afraid of losing and collecting all those programs off the web plus recovering ancient passwords will be a real pain. If you can suggest what type of files related to certain apps I can delete safely that would be appreciated. For example I don't use Eye TV anymore but I see remnants of the program in EtreCheck.

Thanks,

Daniel
