Connecting an iphone to ethernet

I'm trying to connect my iPhone XR and iPad (which both have lightning connectors) to an ethernet cable. Lightning to ethernet adaptors aren't available but I can buy a lightning to USB C connector and USB C to ethernet connector. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried connecting these together and whether it works i.e. whether I can get wifi free internet access this way. TIA
