"The Finder can't quit because an operation is still in progress on an iOS device."

Doing a few searches I see that this was an issue is Catalina.

But it is actually plaguing me more in Big Sur.

Restarting the Finder via force quit doesn't resolve it.

There is not way to force quit the sync itself.

The progress bar in the locations list in the finder window is immobile.

There is no indication on the iOS device that any sync or backup is going on.

Whether the iOS device is plugged in to power, the mac, or even switched off, doesn't matter.

Waiting for it to complete (days) doesn't resolve it.

This is a recurring occurrence, where the solution is to pull the power on the imac.

Was hoping that it would stop when upgrading to Big Sur but it continues just like in Catalina, and I see that this same question, when brought up by a Catalina user on the discussion board here receiver hundreds of "I have this question too." upvotes.....and no solution.

Would love to at least have a way to abort the "operation" other than holding the iMac power button and crashing the system.

iphone XR running 14.2

iMac 17,1 running Big Sur 11.0.1 (and unable to update due to this situation)

Hi, open the Activity Monitor on your Mac and stop the entry named "AppleMobileBackup". That should end the service that blocks your device from shutting down.
