unable to use and add finger print for my macbook pro after the latest update

The article doesn't address the issue.

The specifics are as follows, at least for my case.

• My Macbook Pro 16" is a brand new one, just received it this week
• After OS upgrade to Big Sur, I was not able to use my finger print
• I went to 'Touch ID' , entered my password and tried to add a new finger print but was not able to: nothing happened after I clicked on the '+' button.
• I tried several times, including deleting the old finger print and starting over, but still was not able to add.

Any idea what to do next?
