How to cure "iCloud and iMessage accounts do not match", when you are signed in with same Apple ID???

First of all, I don’t have a different “account” for iMessage and I have never, ever changed my username (which is my iCloud email address). Going into settings > Messages > signout of iCloud DOES NOT WORK. Signing in and out of iCloud ANYWHERE, does NOT work in ANY area of settings. What is the problem? Why does this have to be so complicated?

Why does it say that my iMessage and my Apple ID have different accounts it says my iMessage and Apple ID have different accounts? I have an alias I didn't create and it seems to be connected to my icloud with a password I didn't create either I thought my Apple ID was the same as icloud

imessage different than icloud account when i turn the imessage on, i get a message that says "messages in icloud not available as icloud and imessage accounts are different" Why? how can this happen?
