If I plug in my headphones then they can here me . Also when I record a video the microphone works fine . Just not on any video chats . I’ve updated the phone to 14.3 . Also reset the phone and removed the messenger app and re installed it . Still no joy .. is it an app issues or a phone issue ? Please help

My failure was also after about 10 days - Coincidence???

As with an earlier post. I download and ran the Microphone test using Phone Diagnostics App from the store. ‎Phone Diagnostics on the App Store (apple.com)

It showed constantly that 2 Microphones were not working. I used this as evidence to get a replacement. I have still seen nothing from Apple acknowledging this fault that many of us are having.

For this is continue happening on their most expansive devices is a disgrace.

If you run the diagnostics, please share on this thread to see if it affects the same microphones on every device with the problem. This is then more evidence for the Apple Community of a traceable fault.

I downloaded 'Phone Diagnostics' from the App Store, a tool that allows you to check every Microphone individually across a range of frequencies. Every time I ran it, it gave an identical result that the FRONT and REAR Microphones were not responding AT ALL.

I took my phone to my provider, ran the app in front of them, and they accepted that there was a fault even though Apple STILL officially refuses to admit a fault.

I am now awaiting my replacement. When it arrives I will refuse to update to 14.3. Saying that, if Apple still refuses to admit there is a fault, there is little chance that they will fix it unless they do so and hide it in the 14.4. update.

Let's hope that TRUTH from Apple prevails.

Hey mine is having the same issue! Voice quality is pathetic - mine is a month old but having this problem since first week of buying this phone. iPhone 12 Pro Max!

As someone has already said .. such an expensive phone and such a disaster ! A basic voice quality is so pathetic ?

worst part is Apple is just doing their crappy trial and error troubleshooting with zero knowledge on resolving the issue. Now they telling me they will reinstall OS on my phone. For what ? Will it really help? They themselves don’t know. Am appalled at their horrible service standards - selling below par products ! Just last last month my AirPods right bud got spoilt - within 1.5 years !

Hey Christy

Forget about reinstalling and all the scripted bull. I did all of this and still did not help. I even told them I have been an Apple Distinguished Educator since 2001 and know what I am doing and talking about. Nothing they recommend works. I am certain it is a fault on some, not all, phones. I just don't know what and Apple, as they are, refuse to admit it. I understand that there are sometimes errors in mass production. I just wish they would have the balls to be honest, stand up, and admit it. At the moment, my like for the Apple, the company, is inversely proportional to my like of their products. :-)

I would suggest downloading PHONE DIAGNOSTICS from the App Store. This allows you to test everything but more importantly, it allows you to test every microphone individually across a range of frequencies and lets you know if they pass or fail on each frequency. I ran this on my phone and it consistently failed the same 2 microphones across all frequencies. I then used this as evidence there was a fault when I returned it for a new phone.

Good luck
