Google Chrome location services won't stay enabled!

I am trying to enable location services on Google Chrome. Of course, I have already allowed location services within Chrome. When using google maps, I get a pop up that says "Location is turned off in Mac System Preferences". I then click and it takes me to Security & Privacy > Location Services. Enable location services is checked off, and Google Chrome is checked off (temporarily). I click the lock to prevent further changes. I return back to maps, refresh the page and get the same error. I click the pop up to take me to location services and GOOGLE CHROME IS DISABLED/ UNCHECKED. The settings seem to be changing on their own and reverting back to unchecked. It's a frustrating issue! I've cleared the cache and tried reinstallation with no avail.

^^^ This should be marked as the correct answer for this issue cos it provides good info and a workaround.

The Chrome bug report explains that the issue happens if you access OS Location permissions while a Chrome update is pending (see comment #10).

Until the bug is fixed, the workaround is to update Chrome, then set the location permissions. They should stick until at least when the next Chrome update is released. It does seem to be working for me.

I updated Google Chrome and the problem appears to be fixed!

I came here because I had the same problem: Location Services won't stay enabled for Chrome.

To update Google Chrome, go to: chrome://settings/help

Click "Relaunch".

Chrome will close and reopen, presuming you have Automatic Updates turned on.

With Automatic Updates, Chrome is designed to update every time the program is started. One could also simply close the program and reopen it. This should cause the update to install, as well.

In MacOS, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Location Services. Click the padlock to unlock and re-enable Google Chrome.

Voila!

I was doing some REACT last night and implementing window.navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition().

I thought I was going nuts for a while because it just wouldn't work.

Just like you, I toggled Chrome on in the "Allow the apps ... " Location Services in the Sec & Privacy Preferences and just like you the dang thing continued to toggle off on its own every time I reloaded my site.

I updated my Chrome from 89.x to 90.4.4430.85 and now its all working as expected. (Chrome "triple dots" Menu -> Help -> About -- and then chose Update)

Im using a Mac mini (Late 2014 intel) Big Sur 11.2.3

Hope this works for you too.

This is NOT a Chrome issue. It is an M1 and/or Big Sur issue.

I've been experiencing this since December. I have enabled Location Services and locked the settings many times over. Yet when I come back to the System Preference for Privacy and Security, Enable Location Services is unchecked.

Only if the browser (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) is open will they appear in the list of apps that can be enabled, even if I've previously enabled them. I have to unlock, then enable location services, then select the checkbox for the apps I want to use.

Later, when I come back, regardless of whether or not I've locked Privacy and Security, it is locked, enable location services is unchecked, and if the apps aren't open, they don't appear in the list of apps that have requested access.

I continually get a message that Calendar would like to use my location. I allow it, but it doesn't stick.

I've reinstalled the operating system with a fresh install, and it still does this.

I am seeing the issue happen on Macs running OS X 10.13.6, 10.15.7 and OX 11.2.2.

This Started happening after Chrome v87. Now every update since then Chrome will turn off the

Location Services, and our users have to go into the panel and re-turn it on after a Chrome Update.

Since our Webfilter relies on the Location Services being set for Chrome, users cannot use Gogole Search

with out it.

I've looked into scripting it or setting a profile: Apple says it can't be done and is Google's fault.

Google says its Apple's fault.

I'd simply like it to be fixed.
