2021 Toyota Tacoma CarPlay navigation volume can’t be heard over music.

I’ve been reading forums and what’s being suggested isn’t working. When I play music on my 2021 Toyota Tacoma Car Play, it is quieter than the music and I can barely hear it. I tried adjusting the volume when navigation voice is talking like forums suggest with no luck. I tried different cords and USBs with no luck. I looked through setting and nothing works. On my old blue tooth car it would lower the music during the navigation voice so the voice was more clearly heard. How do I accomplish this seemingly basic feature on Carplay?

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, LJIndiana!

From our understanding, when using navigation via CarPlay, the instructions are lower than the music volume. We’d be happy to help get you pointed in the right direction.

To get started, iOS - CarPlay - Available Models - Apple shows the models of vehicles that CarPlay is available and supported. In this case, we’d recommend reaching out to your vehicle manufacturer for assistance with this to determine if there is a setting that can be changed.

Kindest regards!

2021 Toyota Tacoma SR5 model. Toyota is going to refer me back to Apple since it’s Apple software settings (or lack there of) that are the issue. Is this really all Apple has to say about their CarPlay program? Usually Apple support is much more helpful. You guys already have a pause podcasts for navigation option built in, why is there no pause or lower music option? The non-Apple blue tooth connection to the car stereo lowers my music for navigation, you would think that CarPlay would have this very basic feature. The whole point of CarPlay is so I don’t have to use my phone to perform navigation and other Apple services while driving.

I am having issues as well with my 2021 Toyota Tacoma. Seems to not like when bluetooth is on AND the lighting cable is plugged in. Calls freak out and drop from the radio to the phone. Unplug the phone and sometimes it picks up on Bluetooth sometimes not. Seems to need a software update again but so far I updated entune but Apple trying 14.4 to see if that resolves it.

I have had nothing but problems with Apple CarPlay from day one with the 2021 Tacoma. I had an Avalon prior to this and only had bluetooth which worked fine. My calls don't work properly most of the time, I can't hear them or they can't hear me. Sometimes spotify or podcasts don't come up. It's just a blank screen that says spotify or podcasts. I've experienced the volume issue before too but it's mostly call volume that's an issue. The navigation apps freeze and look zoomed in or zoomed out or sometimes just stop working. To be honest, CarPlay has been a disaster for me from the gate.
