GarageBand can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because macOS version 11 or later is required.

Running Catalina on 27" late 2013 iMac. Why do I get the update of Garageband for Big Sur offered, causing a permanent red badge in the app store icon for an update that is not compatible with my system?

Apparently an Apple glitch. Got rid of the badge by uninstalling GarageBand and re-downloading it from "Purchased". You can also try compressing it and again, download from "Purchased".
