Fitness+ won’t use screen mirroring

Why do the workouts not show through screen mirroring or lightning to HDMI cable? The preview video works but when I start the actual workout I only get sound through the tv.

You need the Apple TV. You can’t mirror. Start the Fitness+ app, and when you get to the video after you select you workout (before hitting Play) in the lower right is the Displays icon, and you can choose the Apple TV to display it. Make sure your Apple TV is up to the latest version.

I agree 100% with your post. The only reason screen mirroring does not work on your tv is because Apple designed it that way to force you to buy Apple TV for the tv you want to use fitness+ on. That’s pretty sad because I think they would have a lot more people signing up for their bundled products... especially the one for 29.95 per month which includes fitness+

Yes, I know. But they should monitor them, in my opinion. And others share that opinion. But yes you are correct: you’ve got to submit product feedback, and I have done that also, as have others. My post was a rhetorical vent as it’s irritating that Apple made an intentional decision to limit product/service functionality in this case. The videos could and should be mirror-able to any television. Third party fitness apps like Peloton even support this.

Right the casting option isn’t going to work as it currently stands. That’s what everyone is complaining about. That’s why I tried the Onn usb-c to hdmi cable with my iPad Pro. Someone else mentioned that they tried a lightening to hdmi cable for their iPhone and it didn’t work (could have been the type of cable though since not all are compatible with the iPhone even if in theory they should work fine). I don’t know if Onn has a lightening to hdmi adapter I will get it and see if it works the same as the usb-c to hdmi one I have does so I can try it with my iphone. If it does it will be an option for everyone else that has an iPhone but maybe doesn’t have an iPad Pro to use the setup I did

To clarify my self. Everything working in term of connection and cables (IPhone>lightening-USBC-MacBook via QuickTime Record the video) only the workout video doesn’t (probably because of their protective mechanism in place)

but to be honest it doesn’t make any sense because with few additional devices content pirate still will be able to record these videos so it’s just making life of regular users much harder.

Oh Apple. Once again you missed the forest for trees by forcing anyone wishing to use apple fitness + on their large screen format to have an Apple TV box. Pull your heads out of your Cupertino spaceship and notice that not all the world can afford each and every one of your products.

You want to help the world get in shape? How about undoing this mistake so we are not staring into a tiny phone during a pandemic.

This is on par with the Magic Mouse that can’t charge while in use. Seriously?

Not that I agree with Apple but you can watch fitness+ on your iPad or iPhone when your traveling. The problem with Apple not allowing screen mirroring is just a blatant smack in our face. They are forcing you to buy Apple TV for the tv you want to you fitness+ on. It is well documented but they don’t care because it has not hurt there business one bit at this point in time.

I have the same issue, purchased an Apple Watch series 6 so that I could enjoy Apple fitness + on large screen tv, turns out I also need the Apple TV module! Spent hours chatting to Apple support with little explanation. Apple Fitness + and the watch sold to me on the understanding of any screen, any time, anywhere. They have simply blocked the capability of any existing mirroring. Feel cheated and short changed, I have given Apple an altimatum; provide me with an Apple TV module for free or upgrade software or else I will be returning my watch for a full refund and I won’t be subscribing to any fitness +, I am furious 😤

This is a huge disappointment for my wife and I. Purchased a new apple watch with the intent of using Fitness+, only to find out that we can't play this from a phone to the big screen TV in the basement. While we have an Apple TV, that is on a different television in the house and there's no reason we should have to purchase new equipment or move our existing Apple TV to a Smart TV that supports Airplay.

I hope you guys get this sorted out soon. Otherwise we will be cancelling our Fitness+ membership and using something else.
