Can't hear received calls on iPhone 12 Pro Max

Hi, I recently upgraded to 14.3 on my iPhone 12 max, when receiving calls I can’t hear the caller at all via the ear speaker or if you press the speaker button. If I hang up and ring them back there are no issues. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have tried the following and one of them solved the problem - for the last 2 weeks it is working fine:

  1. Reset network settings (this did not help by its own - temporary solution)
  2. Remove all BT devices and add again when needed
  3. Turnoff VoLTE


I do not have 5G in my region yet. Therefore I do not see the option all together. The reason I am writing this is because some as written that this happens when 5G is turned on, but seems like it was not the case for me.


This is for sure either a GSM radio issue or an OS issue. Hopefully it is the latter and Apple pushes a patch for it.

Hello everyone. I am facing the same issue like i mentioned earlier. I have been going to the network provider and apple store to fix this issue as it is soo annoying. But i have recently got a solution for the issue. Try to disable VoLTE (voice over LTE), its in the settings under cellular settings. It worked for me. After i turned it off i am getting incoming calls and its audiable. I hope its works out for everyone experiencing the similar issue. Anyway i am going back to Apple store to see what they can do about this. I will update once its done. Because last time i did mention to the technical support guy if whether its the VoLTE. But he said that shouldnt be the reason. Anyway it worked for me. If it works out for anyone else please do reply. Goodluck!

I am on the phone now to Apple and they're telling me its because of the SETTINGS / MOBILE / MOBILE DATA OPTIONS being on Roaming On - Voice & Data being on "5G Auto" and this could be the issue as my SIM card plan isn't on the 5G plan...

I don't ACCEPT this explanation of theirs because I could hear all incoming calls just fine before(and I don't have a 5G plan) and now for a week I cant hear any incoming call. All incoming calls sound dead !!! Maybe the new iOS 14.4.2 is the CULPRIT

I have the iPhone 12 for 2-3 weeks and having the same problem as everyone else here! Have just trawled through 6 pages, seen one? reply from Apple and have tried a few of the suggestions from other unhappy customers.

My phone is linked to my previous iPhone 7 as I have given that to my kids, I switched off ‘allow calls on other devices’ and that seems to have worked. I have also now changed the mobile data options > voice and data to 4G only as per ppls suggestions that 5G is the problem.

Hopefully this works as it is obviously incredibly frustrating having a phone that is 100% fine to make calls on and not working to receive calls at all, so obviously NOT a cover or speaker problem Apple!

Please note these 6 pages of the same problem and organise a fix to iron out this bug!
