Macbook Pro 2020 (with M1 Chip) webcam is awful quality. Any one know how this can be improved?

i have just bought the new Macbook pro 2020 with M1 chip and have realised the webcam quality is awful and very grainy.

does anyone know if there is a way to improve the webcam quality?

It seems OK on FaceTime to me but really bad on Zoom and Google Meet. I found there is an 'HD' option you can switch on in Zoom on Preferences -> Video and likewise in Google Meet -> Settings -> Change Video Send REsolution to 720p instead of Auto. Should help. Let's see.

Same problem here. Camera quality is garbage, which is so baffling for a brand new expensive Apple product. I know literally nothing about video and I could tell right away that this looks like a video from 2001.


Since (unsurprisingly) no one from Apple support has responded here, I want to share that I talked to someone at Apple support who acknowledged the issue and said they'll be releasing an update sometime "in the next few months" that's supposed to somehow fix it.
