Mac OS versions compatibility with iOS versions

I have a Mac with 10.6.8. I also have an iPhone 6 that was running on 9.0.2 until a memory issue forced an upgrade to the recent 12.4.9.

The Issue: The backups of my iPhone is on my Mac but after the upgrade it does not recognize my iPhone.

My Query: I understand that it is possible to downgrade to lower versions of iOS. What version of iOS should I downgrade to so that my Mac with 10.6.8 will recognize my iPhone and I can restore my backups?

Downgrading isn't possible. You need to upgrade the computer's OS or use a newer one.

If I upgrade my Mac would it not become slow as I probably have to upgrade to Catalina from Snow Leopard. Would the newer version of MacOS recognize the iPhone backup as its been done in the very much older Snow Leopard?

Repeating my query:

What version of iOS should I downgrade to so that my Mac with OS 10.6.8 will recognize my iPhone which is currently on 12.4.9 and I can restore my backups?
