Will unplugging/plugging the HDMI cable with both devices powered on deteriorate or damage the Mac? Or will nothing happen?
Don't want my Mac mini breaking on me anytime soon, so I'm trying to gain healthy habits early!

Yes it supports it but it's still not a good idea to hot plug. A bigger issue is wearing out the port. When that happens you'll need an expensive motherboard repair, or you'll have to replace the entire computer.

Yes the HDMI port will ware over time.
Can you explain why you are having to unplug and plug the HDMI cable from the port.
