2019 16 inch Macbook Pro screen stays on when lid closed

Try the Following:

Unplug/detach the power adapter prior to closing the lid. MacBook Pro needs to be plugged into an outlet in order for this to occur.

I have this exact same problem on the exact same model: 2019 16" MBP. It happens regardless of whether power adapter is plugged in.

Did you find a solution? Is there a hinge switch or is it a magnet activation?

To explain mine, as I slowly close the lid, the screen turns off at a point 2" from fully closed, then turns back on when reaching fully closed. Then as I slowly open the lid, the screen turns off at the 1" position and back on at the 3.5" position.
