This is particularly noticeable when in full screen mode watching a video and the ends of the screen are black, as the video does not take up the entire screen. The black ends of my screen are not a consistent “black”, it’s almost as if they’re flickering. The brightness of the video itself is unaffected. It is extremely distracting and noticeable, and my phone is brand new. Anyone experiencing this as well?

Is your iPhone on the current iOS software? If not, make a backup of the device and update the software. Here's information on how to backup and update:

Does the issue happen in specific apps? If so, try to uninstall these apps and reinstall them. This step may also help to resolve the issue.

We're glad to see that your iPhone is up-to-date. If this issue is happening in all apps, it may be related to the iPhone itself. If you're playing games or using other apps in landscape mode (not video related), do you have an issue?
Have you recently dropped your iPhone, or has it come in contact with any liquid? Is it possibly a hardware issue caused by damage? You may need to Contact Apple for support and service so they can further inspect your device.

My iPhone is up to date and I have tried deleting the apps and restarting, however I do not believe this issue to be specific to any one app. For example, when watching a YouTube video, the ends of my screen not utilized by the video flicker and it is very noticeable. As mentioned this issue is not specific to YouTube, it occurs when watching any video from any source with the phone held in landscape view. I wish I could upload a photo to demonstrate but obviously it could not capture the live motion-ugh
