iCloud mail

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a 'rule' in my icloud mail account. The aim is to perform a specific action on any mail that comes from a particular domain (so not just one email address).

Does anyone know if there is a way to enter something in the "if a message is from" section when creating a rule, that will cover all email addresses from a particular domain?

Thanks

Hey dwtcd,

It sounds like you're trying to set up some mail rules for your iCloud email address. We can understand wanting to look into that further. We want to help.

It should be possible to set filters for just the email domain. You can find the steps for that here: Set up rules to filter email in Mail on iCloud.com

"Set up rules to filter email

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, click  in the sidebar, then choose Rules.
  2. If you don’t see the sidebar, see Show or hide the sidebar in Mail on iCloud.com.
  3. Click Add a Rule, then specify the filtering conditions.
    • In the “Name or email address” field, enter a sender’s full or partial name, a complete email address, or an email address domain (the part of the email address after the @ symbol).
    • Use the Then pop-up menus to set up the behavior of the rule.
  1. To add another rule, repeat step 2.
  2. If you have multiple rules, they’re applied in the order they appear in the Rules list. To change the order, drag a rule up or down in the list. You can have up to 500 rules.
  3. Click Done.

Important: If you apply rules to a folder and then delete the folder or change its name, make sure to update the rules for those folders accordingly. For example, you can’t forward messages to a deleted folder."

Thanks!

Because the "Reply To" fields in email headers is very easily forged, and because spammers will rotate IP addresses so that blocking a single IP doesn't work either, I've not had much success blocking domains. However, after realizing that most of the garbage I was receiving was coming via servers in South America, it occurred to me that in my circumstances, if ANYTHING passed through those servers then I did not want it. Since it's very hard to hack the Received field values, I tried the following:

As you can see, it gave me the ability to filter on subsections of IP addresses. This seems to have worked fairly well at the time, although it doesn't seem to be getting used as much now since my ISP seems to have finally gotten around to blocking those things. It might be worth a try.

(BTW, I'm not the Jeff_W apple community specialist that was posting here earlier :-)

Thanks for your reply.

I did actually try that and it didn't seem to be working. Just to clarify, if I wanted to set up a filter for all emails that come from 'example.com', in the 'is from' line of the filter form, should I enter '@example.com' or just 'example.com'. In other words, should I include the '@' symbol?

Thank you.
