New IPhone XS Max with a battery capacity of 93%

Considering if you actually bought it "new" from a retailer, it's been sitting on a shelf since at least September of 2019 when Apple discontinued that model, it's not surprising.

That phone was discontinued last year so it would not be unusual for the battery to degrade. Don’t worry about it until it gets to 80% or less.
