Transferring email from one Apple ID to another

I would like to transfer my primary iCloud email account from my husband’s Apple ID/account to my new Apple ID/account. Some answers to this question 5 years ago indicate that this can NOT be done. Is that still true? Is there a way I can connect my email even if it stays with my husband’s Apple ID account? I just want to see it within my new Apple ID account even if it still tied to his account. Thanks,
