What happens when my new iPad has been transferring for the last 5 hours and is stuck on the same screen?

after transferring my data to my new iPad it has been stuck on the same screen for 5 hours. How long does it usually take for it to transfer? And did I do it wrong?

Devices Side by side and plugged in to power. New device Screen says “it may take a few minutes to transfer your iPad”. Old screen says “keep this iPad near your new iPad while your information is transferred”. The circle below is spinning. Thanks for any advice with this. I wonder if I need to start over?
